I know I have dreamt of stuff that is clearly a result of seeing or thinking something that day but often it is random to say the least. I dream of stuff that has nothing to do with my life but the dream is always a coherent story.

from your collection on concious interpretations of your life. Dreams are caused by "rapid eye movement"(REM) where random stimuli are created in your brain. The brain does not like to be confused, so it tries to make sense out of it. It does this by applying life interpretations to the stimuli. This is where your experiences affect your dreams

In dreams you create the images to make sense of the ideas/feelings you are processing. There is a spiritual element to dreams and some can be psychic to a degree. So some of the images can be coming to some degree from an outside source, but you still have to pick up and relate somehow to the images. In the process of working through the feelings, a story will result and give you a picture of how well you handled the energy. I believe we connect with the spiritual realm in our dreams, so we may have an actual experience in this silent, invisible, intuitive realm{invisible to the normal senses], using our own images to make sense of it. Sometimes the spirit actually relates to the material realm in sleep, and you may actually see real life type images, that may be quite accurate.

a dream is one of a few things. it can be a series of images, ideas, emotions, and/or sensations occurring involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. it can ALSO be a state of mind/being, like a trance. or an aspiration or something gratifying.

a dream is 1 or a bunch of these things all in one. 1 might be more dominant that the other at one point in time opposed to another....
