Sure Ryan was a Met, but he hardly pitched for us at all, so how could he make the "Mets" all-time team?

I think that you need to add Jessie Orosco as a lefty specialist (so when you play the Yanks in the Subway series you can get Oneil out)
I agree with you on Piazza over Carter. The offensive differnece is too great.
But what about Kieth "sniff sniff" Hernandez at first. He is probably the 2nd best defensive 1st baseman in the last 30 years (Donnie Basball being the best) and he hit well with the Mets

This is what I feel the all-time roster should be:

C - Mike Piazza (Carter very close)
1B - Keith Hernandez (Olerud close)
2B - Wally Backman (Felix Millan and Alfonzo close)
SS - Bud Harrelson
3B - Howard Johnson (David Wright very close)
SP - Tom Seaver, Jerry Koosman, Jon Matlack, Dwight Gooden, Sid Fernandez
Closer - Tug McGraw (Billy Wagner very close)

No way can you leave off Bud Harrelson. Kranepool and Franco only had longevity but weren't the best at either position. Felix Millan (1973-1977) and John Olerud (1997-1999) were also very good at their positions, and Jerry Grote (1968-1977) was probably their best all-around catcher, and handled the pitching staff better than Carter and much better than Piazza.

I wouldn't include Nolan Ryan. Although he threw hard and was overpowering, he really never came into his own until after he was traded away. Nolan took a back seat to Seaver and Koosman, and was never really given much of an opportunity to pitch like he did after the trade.

pricehillsaint, if you're going to put GIl Hodges at first, then why not put Willie Mays in the outfield and Warren Spahn as your pitcher? They played for the Mets as well.

Carter vs. Piazza is a close call... Piazza is probably the best hitting catcher in major league history, but was not a good defensive catcher at all... Carter was an outstanding defensive catcher but had lost a bit of his defensive ability by the time he joined the Mets.

And Keith Hernandez should definitely be the first baseman over Ed Kranepool.

I would not change a thing. Of coarse Nolan Ryan was in my opinion one of the best, so maybe he can keep Franco company in the bullpen. What is amazing about these players is that they stayed around. Not to many greedy players or ones who wanted to be traded. I met Kranpool and Hodges when I was a little boy in WONJ at a car dealership grand opening. Chrysler I think. It was a great. Berra was there too. Today Ron Darling is my neighbor and he is a very nice person. Go Mets in 08!!

You got the pitching staff right
Nolan Ryan is the most over-rated pitcher in baseball history > His many fans seem to forget that the name of the game is called wiinning ballgames not racking up gaudy personal stats

I would have Keither Hernandez in for Kranepool, Wright in for HoJo, and Beltran in for Cleon. Other than that, I agree with your picks.
