my best dumpster dive find, you're going to laugh at this, one mourning at work my boss called me over to his truck, like real quit, and sais he lost his money clip, and he just got back from the bank. we retraced his steps for about an hour, the only thin i could think of, he threw out his breakfast wrappers from bk. still no luck, about twenty minutes after he left, i went back to the dumpster, i looked all the way in the back, and way down at the bottom, there it was! boy did he freak when i called him and told him where i found it. i gave it back to him and tried to go back to work, but he wouldn't let me, he tried to give me a reward, and i wouldn't take it, i told him he'd do the same for me if i lost it, and he said if i didn't take it he was going to put in on my pay check any way. he said any one else could have come back later and got it out and kept the whole thing, I've been with him for 8 years now, so i think that the honesty is the best policy thing is true.

Our town has a "swap shop" at the waste transfer station. The swap shop is a place where you can drop off things you no longer need or want, but are not ready for the dumpster, for others to take. It takes a lot of good, useful stuff out of the waste stream. We've found several treasures there, but my favorite is the 1750 PSI pressure washer that needed only a new plug.

My best find was a 18.5 horse power, twin cylinder, hydrostatic drive, 48 inch cut, Poulan yard tractor. It had a clogged carburetor, and needed an oil change and blades.
Finally got it out of the dumpster and $15.00 later have a great mower! (Still mow with it!)

A 20 hp outboard motor. It had a 6 gallon remote tank. I replaced the dried and cracked hose for about $20. It ran great. I sold it for $575 on Craigs List!

I'm the son of the son of a junk dealer, I think it may be in my blood.

I remember one trash day as a kid in elementary school where I found boxes and boxes of great books and about 20 jars of perfectly good model paint. We weren't poor, but my brothers and I didn't have money to buy model paint for the models had scraped up to buy, so this really stuck out as a treasure of a find!

I found a hot blond and now she's my wife. She mostly sits in the corner and doesn't talk. She's a bit beaten up but the important parts work. Wish her **** weren't so hard and fake. Haha.

I don't know if it is my best ever, but I very recently found a full size plastic hamper that was virtually new, just extremely dusty. After a good washing, it looks brand new.
