I think the disciples were so enamored with Jesus, that they failed to see Judas for what he is. I know if I was walking with Jesus I too would fail to see Judas as a betrayer. When we read the Holy Scriptures there are times when Judas speaks that gives away his heart.
Jesus did give us ways to spot a false christian today, "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. . . A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit." (Matthew 7:15,16,18)
Someone once said, "We are not to judge, but we need to be fruit inspectors."

Yes, Judas walked the walk and talked the talk, but none of the apostles had the discernment of the Holy Spirit at that time. Jesus had not yet risen from the dead and ascended, sending the Holy Spirit to inhabit the hearts of the saved.
Romans 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
I am not saying I would have recognized Judas for what he was, though. :oP

Well, eventually he became known! And eventually the Judas's among us make themselves known also.
I think to spot them, it takes discernment that only the Holy Spirit and prayer can give, and at the time of Judas' life, the Holy Spirit had not yet been given.

You can spot them today rather easily. By their works you will know them.
First, they spend a lot of time doing silly things to distract people from God's one mission for us, that we treat the least of God's children with care, kindness and respect just like we might treat God Himself. If not engaged in this, all the rest is just bullshirt.

Have you ever read the Gospel of Judas?
It was one of those Gospels that the 2nd-century Christians decided to omit from canon because they didn't like it.
It tells the story from Judas' point of view, and it says that Christ asked Judas to betray him, in order that his mission might be fulfilled. Judas is portrayed as one of the most loyal apostles for having the strength to put to death his mentor and teacher.
The Gospel of Mary, the Gospel of Peter and the Gospel of Thomas are among other interesting non-canonical gospels.
We will never know how it really happened; so much of Christianity was created by others long after the death of the actual prophet.

What if the gnostic Gospel of Judas is the real story regarding Jesus and Judas -where Jesus told Judas to turn him into the Romans so Jesus could die and go back to heaven to be with God (because he had taught the apostles what he was supposed to, and his work was done)?
Sorry, I just like to be the "devil's advocate" when it comes to Judas questions..

Of course not because we all are a Judas at some point regardless of how true to the religion we want to be.
It's easier to PREACH Christianity than it is to live it.

The thing I find interesting is that when Jesus told his disciples that one of them would betray him, each of them started to ask: "Is it me?" I think they all realized, as must we, that each of them had the potential to be a betrayer. And, in fact, Peter, who seemed the most steadfast of all the disciples, also betrayed Christ by denying that he knew him. So, the wolf in lamb's clothing could very well be me, or anyone.

Eventually the truth will be obvious, just like it was eventually with Judas... and look what happened to HIM.
