A conversational topic that is usually associated with the misfortunes or events of others, usually when the concerned party is not present. Gossip is sometimes used to sooth others personal problems, relationship mishaps, ect.

Even though this word has derogatory connotations, it doesnt only have to do with another's dilemmas.

And no, that is not from a dictionary.

Any sort of communication between people that has to do with others that are not in the conversation whether it is good or bad news. Even to say to someone Hey my daughter is pregnant and the daughter isn't there when the conversation is taking place I consider that gossip. Everyone that speaks or communicates is usually guilty of some sort of gossiping.

my definition of gossip is when you hear something about someone and then you start talking about it 2 people behind the other person's back.

Spreading half-truths and outright lies about a person to artificially inflate one's own ego.

To waste time caring about people who doesn't even know about the existence of one. One example is caring about celebrities and their lifestyle like if they were gods.
