It is not a legal tender, but lots of stores accept Chinese Yuan (CNY) in Hong Kong now.
Chinese Yuan worths more than Hong Kong dollar now, but it is still close to 1 to 1. Official rate is around 100 CNY = 106HKD.
Most large stores accepts Chinese Yuan. If you pay in CNY, you may get your changes back in HK$ or CNY, and lose your 6 dollars advantage. Most stores in HK are happen to take Chinese Yuan, but there are more counter fake with Chinese Yuan. For larger store, they have the machine to do the verfication, but some smaller store or local store that is not designed to do business with traveller may be afriad to take CNY.

You bet. The Hongkies used to not like the mainland Chinese, but now since they have all the money almost everyone will take the RMB. However, make sure you get a good exchange rate! The Hong Kong dollar is now worth less than the RMB (it used to be worth more) so you should get 1.06 of HK dollar for every RMB. You can get RMB at any bank and many ATM machines. It is easier, however, to use Hong Kong dollars in Hong Kong.

A lot of stores now accept Yuan because of the number of Mainland Chinese tourists. But it is not really a legal tender in Hong Kong strictly speaking. However, you can easily exchanged it for HKD in a bank or currency exchange places. It is probably wise to do that since you can exchange HKD in other countries as HKD is an international currency, but the Yuan is not.

officially no, because Hong Kong dollors is the legal tender, but as Chinese Yuan is such strong currency now and also in many industry such as luxury goods and jewellery for example, the mainland travellers are the main customers, so most of the shop would love to accept your RMB as long as you pay :)

You can pay nowadays in MANY places with RMB. Even the big supermarkets take it. However, some places don't, so you need HK$ too.
Some places also accept Union Pay.
There are also 100's of little money changer places all over the city which change RMB for good rates.
BTW: it's not a legal tender in HK, but widely accepted.

Not in the city. Some smaller stalls at street markets may do so especially around sham shui po because there are people from the mainland who trade and do business with them. You won't have much luck with chinese yuan anywhere else in hk but there are money changers all around so you won't have a problem.
