I do not have a bank that is used with Quicken. I need a program that I can set up a family budget and use it monthly. Can you tell me one? I would also like one that is not useable online but if I can't get that the name of any will do.

Thank you!

mld jay, I would like to talk with you about those 2 options. Would you email me and let me ask a couple of questions?

I use Excel.

As for on-line programs, I have also looked at using either mvelopes from Crown Financial or My total money makeover by Dave Ramsey. The reason I haven't done either is because Excel is working for me.

I do use both Ramesy and Crown's principles with the budget- get out of debt, use cash, etc. I have read books by both and highly recommend you do the same. (The Total Money Makeover by Ramsey and Your Money Counts by Dayton)

I just use Excel. I keep trying things like Quicken, Quickbooks and Access, but Excel gives me the flexibility I needs without all the rules.

Excel is a great program but you have to pay for Microsoft office to get it. An alternative which is an identical program but is free as it is open source is open office. You can download for free at openoffice.org
