Just wondering, what is so bad about the "story" of Christ? Lets just say its not real, fine, i understand its your belief, but you guys dismiss it as some aweful thing. Yet i know most of you like happy endings, (ex: family was saved from a fire, some one donate a million dollars to the homeless, some one donates a kidney to a dying child etc) But the "story" of Jesus, His love and redemption, offers us hope, or delivers us from drugs, or alcohol, or heals our body, you guys don't want to hear it.
What is so wrong about Jesus?

No one says it's awful, it's a great story, it just isn't true. That's all.

I'm an atheist. There is nothing wrong with the 'story' of Jesus.
It's a wonderful story and a wonderful philosophy. The problem is; folks preach that it is TRUE, that it is non-fiction, and that great eternal harm and punishment will come to those who do not believe in their 'truth'. The story of Jack-in-the-beanstalk is a wonderful story, too. But you'd get real mad at me if I told your child that it was true and that he could get a treasure if he just climbed up into the tallest tree he could find. That kid would be dissappointed to find no treasure there, that I had lied. And you'd sue the pants off me when that kid fell out of the tree and broke his neck, right?
The STORY of Jesus is fine. The TRUTH that others proclaim is nothing but unproven hearsay. Yes; it often inspires hope, but it is often misused to promote intolerance, discrimination, sexual molestation, and even murder (Salem Witch Trials, the Crusades, etc.) You're right about one thing though: we all love happy endings :)

Ath-E-ist... e before i - it comes from the same root as "Theology" and I'll bet you never spell that wrong.
Just make the effort (or have the courtesy) to use the spell checker, it's free and it's right there every time you post a question.

The 'story' is not the problem, I just don't believe in God, yours or anyone else's. As for not wanting to hear it - how could I not hear it? It's on TV, people preach on some channels 24-7, it's on hundreds of thousands of websites, I have family and friends who are Christian so I've read it six times or so cover to cover at their request. What's wrong with the story? I think that it's none of my business to decide what you should believe, so I keep my opinions on that subject to myself. I also think it goes both ways and it's none of your business what I believe or do not believe.

Why can't you Christians just leave us alone? Why can't you stop shoving the bible down our throats Do you think that if you repeat the same thing over and over enough times we'll just start to believe? Brainwashing 101...

Nothing is 'wrong' with Jesus. I don't think the story is bad. Just the religion. It was all taken too far. I can find love, redemption, hope and even deliver myself from anything I deem as evil without a dead wiseman to help me. And if I do need assisstance, I call my friends and family.

Just because there is no God, doesn't mean that you can only live in darkness, anger, and joylessness. This is harder for you to understand because you rely on your faith to find the good in life.

Isn't that what we're all trying to do?

Never said anything was wrong with him, just don't believe the ressurection ever happened. I've also said much of the philosophy that is ascribed to him is worth including in one's own life. You had a pretty good argument going until the love redepmption, healing, and deliverance part. If the person ever existed a corpse can not do those things you ascribe to it. The person that will get you through drugs or alcohol or many things that happen to you in your life--is YOU.

There is nothing wrong with the story of Jesus....where the problem comes in is when people declare him "divine" and the son of some mythical god thingie.

Then, the man Jesus' life becomes something entirely different and the religious celebration of his birth, when done in a public arena, infringes upon others rights to not have to listen to the drivel.

You and others want to believe in his divinity....that's perfectly fine. But, keep it in the privacy of your home and church and out of public places where people of ALL faiths and NO faiths gather or occupy.

You may think everyone else is going to some hell somewhere - and that's also fine....but keep your opinions to yourself about it. Most of the people in the world don't agree with you.

It's a great story and yes Jesus sounds like a really nice guy, but it's a story.
What's wrong is not Jesus. It's the things carried out in his name. Too bad the good stuff we get from his word, like the things you mentioned comes with all the bad stuff.
I really like Harry Potter, but I don't believe in dragons and giants, and I wouldn't kill someone for refusing to wear the sacred lightening scar. Okay I'm generalizing, of course, but do you see my point?

I hve absolutely nothing against Jesus . Sure , he was a hothead who kicked over the money changers tables , and he went around shooting off his big mouth that he had powers greater than the Emperor . That was strictly against the law . He was tried and executed according to Roman law.
If he delivers us from drugs and alcohol , he's doing a lousy job of it . Just exactly how does a guy who was executed two thousand years ago heal our bodies today ?
Many innocent babies die every day. Where's all of this Jesus-healing ?
To believe that somebody who was executed two thousand years ago , still has any influence on anything is superstition . Any belief in the supernatural is purely superstition .

If that's all there was to it, I still wouldn't believe, but I wouldn't have a problem with it. But you know that's not the end of the story. The problem is people get the idea that Jesus is the only way to salvation, and their path is the only true path to Jesus. Then, before you know it, they want compulsory prayer in school and they want to outlaw abortion under all circumstances.

Nothing is wrong with Jesus, it's the religion that follows him that I don't trust.

Nothing. And you can say the same for the Buddha, and Mohammed, and Confucius. That isn't the point.

I am an atheist, I have no belief in gods. I do not believe that gods exist. I have no evidence for gods , I don't believe in them. Is that clear? That is what an atheist is and that is all an atheist is.

You can ascribe anything you like to atheists but it doesn't change what it means. If I don't believe in gods, I don't believe that JC was the son of a god. He might have been a fine teacher and much of what he said is good - you can say the same about Buddha or Mohammed or Confucius - but he isn't a god.

You believe what you like and leave me to believe what I like.

i could care less about the story. Its fine and dandy, theres lots of books im not a big fan of. But see, people base their lives upon this story, and then they enact laws that hurt me personally...so this story does damage, unlike a real "story" that people read for pleasure only.

If the bible was looked upon as nothing more than a fictional book and christianity as a religion didnt exist, i would have NO problem with the "story" of christ.
