Christians have written accounts of Josephus, Tacitus, Suetonius, and Pliny the Younger from the time if Jesus. These documents exist outside of the Christian Bible. All of these guys were historians from his day.
Do the Mormons believe that there is eveidence of Jesus comming to America in Indian folklore or any other type of evidence? Or does that belief come only in the book of Mormon?
Also, on a side note, there are Indian folklore stories that resemble Noah's Ark. As well as stories simular to Noah's Ark from tribes and peoples all over the world.

The term "historical evidence" means writings from the past that tell us about the time it was written. This is different than "archaeological evidence", which is actual physical artifacts that provide tangible evidence of the time they came from. You asked about historial evidence, and the Book of Mormon itself IS the historical evidence.
However, I suspect you may have meant to ask about archaeological evidence, and there is none that prove Christ came to the Americas. Think about this: what kind of physical artifacts do you think could "prove" such a thing? There are *lots* of archaeogical remains in Central America, but would you know that a given carved or painted figure is supposed to be Christ or not? It's all guesswork. Think about this also: The only "historical evidence" that Christ was resurrected is the written accounts of people who witnessed it (the New Testament), but there is absolutely no "archaeological evidence" of it. There is also not a shred of archaeological evidence for the Exodus of the Jews from Egypt -- we only know about it through "historical evidence" of the Old Testament.

Just a thought and not lds doctrine at all, but...
The Mayan indians actually had a written language made of glyphs, something like Egyptian hieroglyphs. They had many books, codices, that were burned by the Spanish conquistadores and monks. Besides the codices, there are no written records from the americas, so evidence would be hard to come by.

Josephus is the only person within his generation and his documentation about him was put in by somebody else than Josephus who was Jewish. The others were a 200-400 years later not in his day.
As for Jesus being in the americas there are lot of tribes of natives waiting for the white God to return...like Montezuma thought with Cortez when he came to Mexico.

Yeah, I actually have an entire book at home that my grandma had for years called "He Came to the Americas" if I remember right. I would love to verify some of these legends, but some of the tribes they refer to are so far away, I wouldn't know how to contact them to see where the legends were first written down at.
P.S. I think it's out of print, but I can check at home tonight. I have an idea the author/editor may have embellished them slightly for the sake of having them read more smoothly, like poetic phraseology, but again, I would have to have help verifying them one by one.
P.S.S. I see glabe b got a better link and the correct name. Did you want to contact the author personally?

The true Pahana is the "Lost White Brother" of the Hopi. Pahana or Elder Brother left for the east at the time that the Hopi entered the Fourth World and began their migrations. However, the Hopi say that he will return again and at his coming the wicked will be destroyed and a new age of peace will be ushered into the world. It is said he will bring with him a missing section of a sacred Hopi stone in the possession of the Fire Clan, and that he will come wearing red. Traditionally, Hopis are buried facing eastward in expectation of the Pahana who will come from that direction.

Jesus told Jerusalem of the other peoples in the world, and that He would manifest himself unto them.
He commanded the Nephites to pray in his name, and to partake of the Sacrament. There were Prophets all over the world, including Samuel and Nephi, in the Americas, telling people of the wonders to come, including the birth of Jesus.

Many Indian tribes had stories of the great white God who visited their fathers and promised to return...
I won't do your research for you -- google it
but I have also read the book Cookie referred to -- you won't like it. It finds similarities to the history found in the Book of Mormon and oral histories past down among Indian tribes.

There many references to a "White God" visiting the people (Quetzalcoatl). That is Christ!
Since Jesus promised that He would return, that's why the people were thought the Spaniards were gods.
