the best way to help people who are in need is to help them to be self-sustaining. Help them get on their feet so that they can soon get along without charity.
I like to buy animals for families in developing countries, through the Heifer Project. You buy a goat or a goose or a pig or whatever animal is best suited for a particular country, and a family gt the animal, to use for transportation or eggs or milk, etc, to sell products, to make products, and they breed the animals and when there is a baby animal, it is given to another family in that village.
It's a great organization. Another way to help people to become self sufficient is by micro loans, where a person loans a very small amount of money like $25, and a person who needs it to start or expand a business gets the money, then pays it back. Kiva.org is a good one through which I have loaned money.
Whether or not this is the best way who knows? But I would sure like to hear of a better way than this!

the best way to help is to just do something...donate food, blankets, time...anything.
