If you are interested in getting people to believe like you do, or at least see the validity of your beliefs, which would work better? Insulting, belittling them, threatening them with hell? Or being patient and kind and all those things in 1st Corinthians? "Love is patient, love is kind .... " etc.

If you are not interested in getting people to understand your beliefs, don't feel pressured to answer this question.

Not only does it make more sense to love rather than condemn and belittle and insult, loving all people is what Jesus told us to do.

You are SO right! I am a Christian, but I make a point to live like a Chritian instead of shoving it down everyones throat. My father is exactly what you described, "insulting, belittling and so on." What he doesn't understand is that Jesus gave the truth by his actions and loving words. These people hate, they do not love as God has instructed.

You are right, as a Christian, I desire to love others as Christ has loved me- and be patient and kind as this passage says however, there is also a part of this chapter that says- "Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth"- of course I would never be insulting- but if we really love the person we are sharing with, we have to be truthful that without Christ we would all be lost.

I totally agree... even though that too may be to no avail in some cases [including mine]... but ur much more likely to get someones attention with a patient more rational approach.

Being patient and kind surely sounds nice, but I think a little reality check would also do wonders for convincing people.

I am not interested in people believing as I do. I am interested in people being able to logically support why they believe what they do.

Sadly, the fear-threat idea is the one which actually works the best.
