I am currently driving a Kia Sephia and I spun out and smashed into a snow bank today and now I'm really afraid to drive it. What is a good car (I don't want an SUV) to drive in the snow? I'm looking to buy used.

I am a very good driver, have been driving for over ten years, had no distractions, it had nothing to do with my driving abilities (aside from perhaps that it would have been a lot worse if I wasn't as experienced). I would just like to point that out! LOL

if you are looking for a reasonably priced used car a Subaru is very good in the snow with AWD. AWD gives you much more control and predictability in the snow. front wheel drive gives you better traction than rear, but if you loose control with front wheel dive it is the hardest to recover from. Rear wheel drive will have less traction but is actually more predictable and if you get into a spin it is easier to recover with rear wheel drive. AWD gives you the best of both worlds it gives you traction far superior to front drive and predictability and easier recovery than rear wheel drive. Audi and Subaru both make very good AWD systems. Audi is more luxurious but more expensive to buy and maintain so if you are looking for a great winter vehicle that is very reliable and relatively inexpensive you cant go wrong with Subaru. Subaru is getting to be competition for Toyota and Honda for reliability now.

Its definitly a good idea to avoid an SUV especially those with real 4wd systems AWD is more predictable and unless you are going to go off-road with it awd will be all you will need save yourself the gas money and stick with an AWD car

how much do you have?
the best car for you to buy would be an Audi A3 quattro
either a 3.0 or a 2.0T
that car is as roomie as a suv but it is not top heavy and the AWD system + traction control will never get u spining.
its a very pretty car aswell. test drive one soon, you will fall in love with it.
dont get American or Japanies, the are the unsafest and worst cars to drive in snow because their wheel basis arent as complicated and yet sophisticated as Germans.
if you need more information go to youtube and search " topgear Audi"

subaru, bmw, and audi make some of the best awd systems out there. The bmw and audi are much lower to the ground though. The subaru is good if you get a lot of snow and don't need a nice car, but with stock tires, and subaru, with the exception of the sti, are excellent in the snow.

Anything that is front wheel drive, or four wheel drive.

I drove a Dodge Neon, a full size dodge van, a Crown Victoria station wagon, a Ford Grenada, Nissan hatchback, Four wheel drive Ranger and a four wheel drive Nissan truck in snow without problems. Usually it's ice that causes problems... Snow without ice seldom causes problems.

Most of the time it's the experience of the driver over whether the car is safe to drive in snow.

i live in buffalo so i would know best.
You dont need a SUV or AWD
look for a mid size like
honda accord
ford taurus
toyota camry
something like them are great in the snow
but also dont drive fast bc no matter what you drive in the snow you will spin out and crash.
