I like answering questions in this part of Yahoo! Answers, but I have never actually read the Bible. If you could provide a link to the modernised version that would be an extra bonus as I've tried to read the original and didn't find the style very easy to continue reading. I'm an atheist, but I'm interested in the Bible from a historical perspective. Thanks in advance for your help.

I will give you 2 great places

You can search most major english translations for key words it is a fantastic tool.

This one is my favorite
http://net.bible.org/bible.php

Click on the each verse number and you get a side by side comparison of 9 English versions + Greek and/or Hebrew. You can get parsing info on the Greek/Hebrew as well.

The OT even has the LXX. Very Awesome and free.

BTW: Feel free to e-mail me with any specific questions in regard to the differences between versions, or anything else.

One final note: Stay away from the NWT it is not a Christian Bible. It has been edited various times to fit the evolving theology of the JWs. Only read it if you wish to study JWs.

I see you already have links to the Bible, so a couple of handy tools besides the Bible itself...

Go to the Leap Over Web Clutter section of New Free Books. It gives a great link for Bible Subject reference.

Also, the first book on that same site will give you a perspective on how the 4 gospel have been interpreted... and common errors in traditional interpretation.

BibleGateway.com is the very best. You can chose from a wide range of versions and it has great search tools.

Regarding versions it includes 'The Message' a very readable para-phrase but I would not use it for actual study [and not advise quoting it on here in debates!]

If you go to Bible Gateway, there are a number of various translations to choose from.

I'm no Biblical scholar; however, if you happen to have any questions about the Bible or the KJV, I may be able to answer them, or point you towards a source. Feel free to email me.

God bless you. †

I use www.biblegateway.com

They have most major English, and even unicode Hebrew and Greek, translations.

Some are even audio recorded.
