How do we know the first set weren't? Moses was apparently gone for days, which is why his followers got impatient and had enough time to gather up the gold and make the golden calf.

Either you read the books of Moses and you believe what they say or you don't. The Torah says God did miracles through Moses, that His face glowed after talking with God,
the ground opened up and swallowed dissension. If all this is true, I believe the second set was just like the original.

I thought Moses dropped one of the tablets coming down Mount Sinai. Or maybe Disney owns the copyright and won't allow anyone else to publish them.

maybe because the book says later that Moses goes back up, and God makes him a copy of the first?

How do we know the first set existed? Or the second set, for that matter?

It was the book of the law that was codified and ratified, and not the tablets of stone. The book of the law tells us what was on the tablets.
