thank you 006,t his is kind of what i meant. i don't mean killing in the name of atheism, but I def. meant people who kill not for any religious reasons. you've pointed out what I'm going to right about further. That religion is not the only thing that creates war, even if there were no religion, people would still be at war w/ one another because people are just divided by everything. Like cultures, nationalities, communism/democracy.

The Communists killed millions upon millions, in several different countries but mostly in China and Russia. By comparision, the Inquisition killed maybe 40,000 at the absolute most. And remember that the Communists are officially atheistic, and one of their main goals is the abolition of religion.

during the french revolution there was a systematic attempt to stamp out religion by the atheistic french state. it wasn't all that well organised, and only lasted a year, but in some parts of france there were periods of intense brutality when people (sometimes including teenagers) were executed for going to church, owning prayerbooks, and similar trivial offences.
stalin was certainly a terrorist, but his use of terror was down to his marxism not his atheism; hitler was religious, but used mass execution the same way as stalin did.
but the anti-clerical fervour of the terror was an actual state attempt by atheists to wipe out all believers.

Atheists as a group have never attacked anyone, because they're not an organized group. There have been communists who attacked and killed millions, and the communists also happened to be atheists, but it wasn't like they were killing people in the name of atheism.
Edit: Doesn't anyone learn history? Hitler was Christian and so was Nazi Germany. They even required prayer in schools!

Most people will tell you about Stalin's Russia, but the fact that Stalin was an atheist is incidental. He in no way did the heinous things he did in the name of atheism, so don't be confused by it. Hitler was in fact a Catholic, so don't be fooled by that. The most secular and atheistic nations in the world today enjoy low crime rates and flourishing economies. America, which is one of the most religious nations in the world has opposite consequences.

Stalin did no longer kill human beings as a results of fact he replaced into an atheist, he killed human beings as a results of fact he seen them to be the enemies of the state (subsequently, a danger to the Soviet Union). easily, there are a number of fewer cases of violence from atheists than from religious (which comprise christian) human beings. good concept.

Joe Stalin and his communist cronies had a lot of people offed. Had nothing to do with atheism however, had to do with getting rid of anyone which could loosen his power grip.
Pol Pot in Camboida--murdered a bunch of folks in "the killing fields"--these folks typically were allied with the losing side in the war.

Depends if you mean 'belief' atheist or 'practical' atheist.
'belief' atheists who murdered many
1) Robespierre and the French Revolutionary regime 1793-1794
2) Lenin, Stalin and their governance of USSR
3 ) Chairman Mao and his rule of China
4) Pol Pot, and his rule of Cambodia (Kampuchea)
'practical' atheist. If they reallly knew of God they would know His hatred of what they were doing: very many indeed !
1) Attila the Hun
2) Genghiz Khan
3) Napoleon Bonaparte
4) Adolf Hitler

We can't document the beliefs of those who's belief systems weren't clear. I'd venture to guess that Atilla the Hun didn't have much to do with religion as he was building his Empire. In fact, Ghengis Kahn didn't either. Both of these men were ruthless and didn't hold much to the idea(s) that a God or Gods controlled their destinies. Google either of them. PEACE!

That depends on rather you count communism as a religion or not. It's pretty close to one.
But Stalin was quite a murderous freak. He was officially an atheist, although he wanted to be an Orthadox Preist first so who knows.
Added: These people who trough out Hitler are just flat out lyers. The guy was Catholic. I really wish they would take about three hours and read Mien Kampf. There wasn't the sligtest clue that he was anything other than a theist.

I doubt there are many significant events. However, one recent event involving Christian motives resulted in:
100,000 to 650,000 civilian deaths since 2003
Over 2,000,000 diaspora
Less stable water and electricity
More than 40% unemployment
Fired the entire Republican Guard
Rampant corruption
Inflation rate above 50%
Life is hell in most of the country
Guantanamo Bay
Abu Ghraib
US Patriot Act
