SAVORY SPAGHETTI SAUCE

5 lbs extra lean ground beef
1 large vidalia onion
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 15 oz can tomato sauce
1 can tomato juice
1 15 oz can tomato paste
1/3 cup + 1 tbsp chili powder
1 tsp. salt
1 cup ketchup

Combine all ingredients except ground beef, in a large stock pot, bring to a boil crumble in the ground beef, lower the heat and let simmer for 3 hours.
This sauce is good for spaghetti, hot dog sauce, and just as a sandwich.

This recipe makes alot of sauce, freeze extras in ziploc bags for future enjoyment.

You can make a sauce with that, but it may be sort of a light sauce. You need tomato paste to make it thicker really. But just chop some onion and garlic and add to a pot with some olive oil. Add onion first and just let them get tender, stir all the time, add some salt and pepper, then add garlic as soon as you smell the garlic (less than 30 seconds) add the crushed tomatoes with all the juice too. Add some oregano, red pepper flakes and a teaspoon or so of sugar, Taste and add salt and pepper to your liking. Let this simmer on low for about 15 or 20 mins to try and concentrate the flavors. To further stretch it you can mix it with the pasta instead of putting it on top. If you have Parmesan cheese this would work out fine. Good luck

1 pound lean ground beef
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 cup grated onion
1 packet dry spaghetti sauce mix
1 - 15 ounce can tomato sauce
1 - 6 ounce can tomato past
salt and pepp to taste

Cook the beef, garlic and onion over medium high heat until beef is brown, stirring often. Stir in the sauce mix, tomato sauce, and tomato paste. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, adding water to thin if needed.
Season to taste....

I brown some ground beef and drain. I chop some onion and some garlic, saute with beef. Add a can of diced tomatoes and some tomato sauce. A small can of tomato paste. I add a little Italian seasoning and then some ketchup and mustard. You might need a little water. I don't really measure, so I can't give you the exact amounts. But it is good to my family this way.

This is the recipe my mom taught me:

Brown a pound of hamburger with a small chopped onion.
Drain the fat.
Add one can of tomato soup, one can of chopped tomatoes, and a can of tomato sauce, season with oregano, chili powder, or whatever other seasonings you like in spaghetti, teaspoon of sugar, you may need to add a little water.
Let it simmer for about an hour.

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Recipe

don't know quantities a lot, pinch a this and pinch a that!

large sauce pot
2 large cans each dices tomatoes and tomato puree
2 med cans italian diced tomatos
2 ribs celery
1-2 carrots
1med onion
1 tsp rounded- minced or chopped garlic (bottle type)
2 cups red or pink wine
2 large cans of water
basil oregano salt
olive oil
dice vegtables and saute in pot with olive oil until translucent and soft (cover and low for about 20-25min). Add garlic and cook for a few min. You don't want garlic to burn. I sometimes add mushrooms, olives at this point, this is optional.
add all tomato, water and salt to taste (don't oversalt it will cook down and concentrate) add about 2 tsp basil and 1 of oregano. can add some red pepper flakes for a little heat. bring to a boil and turn down to simmer about an hour with cover ajar to let evaporate. Then add wine and a little more basil and oregano, a few shakes of each 'bout 2 or 3. and about 1/4-1/2 cup sugar, to taste. I layer the flavors. Simmer for another hour or 2 until get little thicker consistancy. I sometimes add a little tomato paste to thicken if too thin. I think this makes about 6 qts? can be frozen in containers and mixed w/ store bought to give it a home made taste...I add a little wine when I mix them.
Enjoy!

I brown ground beef, add diced onions and cook till the onions are translucent

Then I add tomato sauce and a pinch of sugar, garlic, oregano, basil and a tiny bit of majoram. That's all there is to it.

As for the amounts of seasonings- just taste it as you go. You'll know when it is right for your taste.
