it is a very tough situation, when my father-in-law was sick they called us all together and told us he had bone cancer and no one wanted to tell him. They gave him less than three months, my mother-in-law looked at me and asked if I would tell him, we all went in the room and Dad said he did not want to know. I sat down on his bed and held his hand and kissed his sweet face and said, "Dad, I have some good news for you and some bad news, what do you want first?"
Dad said, "The good news."
I said, "Dad you will be going home to see your Mom and Dad soon."
With tears rolling down his face he said, "Oh thank God I thought I was going to have to live forever, what is the bad news?"
I said, "You have bone cancer."
14 days later while we were at home and I was rubbing his feet he was talking to one of his old dogs dead long ago and he passed. We were all there and my poor mother-in-law kept saying no he is not gone yet. But he was. He was ready to go. It is hard but the truth is always the best!

You really can't keep it from them even if they asked you to, especially if it is life threatening. I think you should ask this person. Ask them are you sure you really don't want to know if there is more bad news? That way they pretty much already know there is more and maybe when this person said that they were feeling hurt and angry and depressed and maybe it has passed a little so they will want to know.

sit down with them, ask them if you received bad news if they REALLY wouldn't want to know if they dont want to know, that is their right.
