American bologna got its name from the town of Bologna, Italy. Baloney is just how we pronoun it here, and in other English speaking countries.

Because of the spelling baloney, as in, I wanted to go to the movies but I lack 1.00 having enough, ahhhhhhhh baloney! lololol
