Merry Christmas has been dismissed for the politically correct “Happy Holidays.” What are we celebrating anyway?

The exact date may be wrong, but December 25th is recognized & celebrated internationally as Christmas.

When deny children the right to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas in public. It implies that there is something wrong with their religion, while at the same time promoting other minority faiths as being somehow 'better' or more acceptable.

Christmas traditions are an important part of the celebration. If you think a particular tradition is too steeped in paganism, forsake that tradition. If you can honor & worship God through a particular tradition do so…

There are two Christmases. There is the religious Christmas (the birth of Jesus), and there is the cultural Christmas (Christmas Tree, Santa Claus, presents). The two Christmases have been diverging from each other ever since the Catholic Church overlayed the pagan mid-winter festival with the Catholic festival. There is a place for each. People want to celebrate the birth of the savior, but people also want to have fun. Since the religious Christmas doesn't include fun, the cultural Christmas is separated from the religious Christmas. You don't have to believe in Jesus to celebrate the cultural Christmas.

I celebrate Christmas and don't believe in Jesus. I celebrate Christmas because it's a very big holiday in my family. Some of my family members do believe in Jesus and go to church and some don't. To me Christmas is about family and giving. It's about celebrating, having fun, spending time with family, exchanging gifts and eat delicious food. I'm am very excited about this Christmas, it's my and boyfriend and I's first Christmas living together and I can't wait.

Christmas is a pagan religion. The mistletoe, the christmas tree, the gift giving goes back to pagan celebrations of the Winter Solctice. Christians, looking to convert the pagans, adapted the birth of Christ (the date is actually unknown) to coincide with the solctice celebrations. The two events were meshed together and new traditions to Christmas continue to be added every year. The real question is why has the church lied for so many centuries.

They know that Yule was around long before Christians?
They see it as a time to spend showing affection to those they care about?
It varies from person to person, but I think those are the two most common reasons.

Maybe you don't have to believe in the whole God-Jesus-virgin birth-resurrection-heaven thing to believe in the message of love and peace for all mankind and enjoy a season for giving, hope and good will toward all.

They are celebrating the SECULAR version of Christmas, which, by the way, draws many of its traditions from the old pagan traditions of Europe. You have YOUR celebration, they have THEIRS.

Because they like the idea of gift giving, sharing, well-wishing, peace on Earth and good will to men.

Christmas is for everyone, not just Christians. Just like Jesus is for everyone, not just Christians.

Jesus died for EVERYONE'S sins, not just one group of people.

It's an excuse to buy people you love presents and spend soem quality time with them!
Think about "everthing" associated with the holiday...christmas trees, lights, santa claus, cookies, sleigh bells, chestnuts, blah blah blah. It has nothing do with Jesus.
It's all about having fun.
