You can use the conduit as a means of getting the cables around the house, but use sheathed cable rather than individual wires. You might find it's a bit tight if you want 2 way light switches.

Yes, you can use it to run cable in but it might be a bit narrow for the weight of cable needed for todays power hungry homes.

Do NOT rely on old conduit for an earth path.

Under the current regs you have to be a part P qualified electrician to undertake this work as it now comes under building regs.You are liable to a large fine if the local authority were to find out you had done it yourself as this is no longer allowed.Sorry for the bad news.

The fact that you have to ask this question makes me worry that you might not be up to doing the job safely.

Best get an electrician in for a quote and ask him the question.

If it is in good condition it should be ok. It is only the wiring itself that really needs to be updated.

Use it for the lighting only, use single pvc with earth wires or twin and earth throughout to ensure earth continuity. Use twin and earth for everything else.
