While most of us enjoy our freedom of religion here in the U.S. there are still many, many countries in which you can be executed for simply being Christian.

You think it's funny question... with high 5's all around from your Wii playing buddies... but its not.

It is very dangerous for Christians in many parts of the world, and deaths due to anti-Christian sentiments are quite regular.

God Bless you.

Actually yes. The way people treat each other in this forum shows the negative attitudes each group have to deal with every day. But more specifically, I feel the Catholic religion gets a lot of persecution. They are in the media more than anyone else for every little thing. For example, the molestation charges were on every front page. But I read an article in the same paper on page 8 in a small story about a baptist minister who had been caught molesting children. Seems they get the most persecution of the christian religions in America.

Being unpopular is not the same thing as being persecuted. Most Western Christians don't have a clue what real persecution is: in other countries our brothers and sisters are being imprisoned, killed, beheaded, and raped, while we cry "foul" because not everybody wants to say "Merry Christmas." If you want to know about persecution of Christians, there are many web sites that tell the story. Or just ask Amnesty International.

Only those Christians who do the work Christ commanded them to do, namely, house to house evangelizing. Also, those who refuse to participate in wars are persecuted. -Matthew 28:19, 20; Acts 1:8; 5:42

If you count ridicule and slander as persecution, then I would say Jehovah's Witnesses are the most persecuted Christian religion. -Matthew 5:10-12

There are Christians all over the world who are being beaten, burned, and even killed for the name of Jesus. There are places where you will go to jail for years if you are caught with a Bible. The list goes on and on. And in this country there are religious freedoms being taken from Christians, and no other religion. So in answer to your question, YES !

American Christians? Probably very few. But Christians in very strict Muslim countries or Christians who have spent time in prison in places like China? I mean I'd feel persecuted for being jailed for my beliefs --- wouldn't you?

If you're asking if it's ridiculous for American Christians to feel persecuted in the classical sense, then yes, it is. That doesn't mean we aren't looked down on and ridiculed --- we are. And certainly some individuals have been targeted by other individuals because of their faith. But I haven't seen any of my American brothers and sisters recently fed to lions by the US Government or anything.

Sadly, many American Christians (and probably elsewhere, too) think they are being persecuted for being a 'fool for Christ' when in actuality they are often persecuted for just being fools.

But if you're saying that persecution doesn't exist anywhere in the world for Christians, then you just need to do more research. It is alive and well, and anytime someone is being jailed and/or killed for his faith, I'd say that fits anyone's definition of persecution.

I'm sure the 270 pastors arrested in China do, along with the Iraqi Christians, murdered and driven out of Iraq, and Sudanese Christians in Darfur, and multitudes of other such Christians.

In America? No - though, it is increasingly becoming so. In other countries? Absolutely... just listen to the news reports of those who are beaten and killed and jailed for being a Christian.
