I stop believing after seeing what all the bullcrap religon has caused in the world, and the "god" they justifiy their actions with.
But for me, its mainly the [moslty] concieted christians that think they're the best in the world.
and I LOVE how they call other religons violent [example: Islam] when their very own religon has the same stuff in the old testament. Old testament is STILL a part of the bible, so you can't justify it with the new.
So what turned you atheist?

>Fellow Athesits, what made you not believe anymore?

Nothing. I didn't convert to atheism because I've always been an atheist.

>and I LOVE how they call other religons violent [example: Islam] when their very own religon has the same stuff in the old testament.

Yeah. Hypocrisy at its best, huh? Of course, not all of them do it...just way too many of them, and unfortunately they're often the ones with political power.

It is really right to say you're an atheist now? If you ever believed God was real, why wouldn't you consider that he may be real, but doesn't interfer with the universe and our lives? That's Deism, do you think it's possible?

I personally am a Pantheist, who has no belief at all in revealed religions (religions with prophets, etc.). I've always thought the idea ridiculous. I'm giving this answer because in my opinion too many people call themselves Atheists without putting any proper thought into it.

I was raised strict Catholic until I was in my late teens. I went to a Catholic school, and attended CCD at my parish in Ohio. But I was often getting in trouble by asking those annoying questions of "Where did Cain and Able find wives?" or some of the obvious loopholes that are brushed aside when studying the bible.

It got to the point that I was often asked to keep my questions to myself and not interfere with the class.

From then on, I looked to other religions for questions and answers, but I usually come across the same kind of thinking. Believe and don't ask.

I separated myself from organized religion altogether in my 20's but I always kept my mind-open to a new "religious experiences" based on sound, critical ideas. None have come along to change that... at least none with a deity based hierarchy.

At the present time, I consider myself and Atheist who has been learning about meditation and Buddhism. While not a religion, more of a belief in the power of the individual, it has given me the tools of meditation and mindfulness, which has brought me more peace and understanding, and asks nothing from me other than to be myself, be considerate of others, and provides me the power to pursue happiness on my own terms, and perhaps, even find it.

My quest for spiritual fulfillment continues. But my search for a religion has most likely ended.

I realized that I had outgrown my need for a belief in a higher power, that I could give myself a purpose based on my own priorities and goals, and that I didn't need a supernatural being to explain how all this stuff got here because there were other more rational explanations.

Plus, I never really believed any of it, since I've never personally experienced any direct evidence of God's existence, and I was tired of pretending all the time to please other people.

~~~ DS ,,,, A study of Comparitive Religion & Mythology, which one soon learns are synonomous. Try learning what The Symbols of Religion mean since they had no technology to Store Information for future reference, thus this precious info was structured through Allegory and Iconography. Knowledge of this rendered ALL gods obsolete and thus Theism is put in it's proper perspective. ~ Namaste`
You were all influenced by the same contacts and sources-media,school,friends,family as Christians were to come to their conclusions about the world around them
remember Atheists you absolutely no proof there is no God as much as the other side of the spectrum of believers have no proof-you're not special because you don't believe.
I was raised non-theist. The religions I was familiar with seemed to make ridiculous claims but I didn't begin to claim atheism until college. I tried to be a Christian my freshman year. I went on a church retreat and we were having a prayer session. Just being there, something clicked.
I already knew personal experience was the only "argument" for God's existence, and I quickly learned how that can be induced in the mind.
i just think that SOME people/ religions are just a big cult and they just make up things for people to believe.i do agree that taking your religion so far as to harming other people, its just a little insane.and also people who go around trying to "change" other people and get them involved in their beliefs.to shun people from your life because you have differnet beliefs then them?i dont understand.i stopped believing when my aunt who was only 50 passed away, she was the most amazing wonderful person ive ever met, she understood eveything and always tried to help, she had also been in a car crash where she was nearly killed, and had 2 kinds of cancer, i just cant beleive that "God" could have done that to her.i was also raised jewish and i have heard people say to me "you killed jesus"
this was back thousands of years ago, so i doubt i physicly killed him that long ago.
Reality. when i was little i just accepted it (because i was born into a catholic family,) bt sooner or later when i actually started thinking indepth about everything, it sounded really stupid (to me.) also they did so many bad things throughout history, and christians can often be ignorant when i tell them why i don't believe anymore and that's when they ask me to.
