This is cheesy, but I think the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is fantastic. They just do a lot of good work, they're very scientific about how they use their money (they don't waste it), and they give to high-impact, high-efficiency projects.

I second what Comrade Abdul Hassan said and can't emphasize enough how amazing I think Amnesty Intl. is! That's large scale at least. My favorite charitable organization on a local scale is a smaller community initiative in West Michigan that helps with homeless transitions, everything from finding jobs to providing temporary housing and cars. They do great work.

At this time of the year I think Toys for Tots or any program that helps little kids have a good Christmas is the best. It's not their fault that economics prevents their parents from being able to buy presents. That's why I don't teach about Santa Claus at home - I want my children to know that gifts are being given out of love and because we are fortunate to have the money to buy them - not because you're "good or bad".

Just my 2 cents.

Why simple;
They are my brothers.
I suffered TB for 3 years as an infant due to the Korean war, it screwed my life all up. Back in 1959 ( I was 3 ) it was contagious, so I was quarantined ...... My dad brought it home unknowingly..... Well I consider and have always considered myself a form of DAV. More of a DAA LOL, well I always have and always will give all I can, so should you.

ASA, Autism Society of America.

1 in every 165 births is an Autistic Child, over 90% of Autistic children are male, that translates roughly into roughly one in 90 male births is an autistic child..

This thing is sneaking up on our society and few are paying attention

The Red Cross.

What matters to me is that the majority of my cash makes it to where it is needed. The Red Cross deals with global situations and gets $94 of every $100 I donate to the people who need it.

Take a look here:

or here:

http://www.charitynavigator.org/

and pick one of the top rated charities that deals in the area that interests you.

I give to World Vision and I get to pick the kind of gift I want to send such as a pair of goats that will provide cheese and milk and the goats will produce offsprings, that means alot to an impoverished family. I also routinely donate to Red Cross.
