The other day i saw a person do something i've seen hundreds of times. They casually tossed a cigarette out their car window as if it was nothing.
Why do smokers think that this is ok?
I am usually pretty understanding when it comes to smokers. I feel bad that they can smoke in designated areas, but when they do that it irks me.
Who else thinks this?
Who disagrees and why?
If your a smoker do you do this?
Can anyone defend this?

That sort of behavior really bothers me too, and I'm a smoker. I don't smoke in my car and even when I did I would use the.....ashtray! Most all of my smoker friends just toss their butts out the window. Every time I see them do this--without fail--I say the same thing. I tell them how that's littering and ask them why them think someone else should be responsible for or have to look at their butts. I tell them it's trashy behavior and makes smokers look bad. They always respond with the comment that butts in the ashtray stink up the car. My response is to tell them it's the price they pay for smoking in their car.

Just so you know not all smokers do this.

It's probably easier for a driver to toss his butt out the window than to grind it in an ashtray. Or maybe they are so meticulous about the interior of the car, that they don't want to dirty the ashtray, or have to look at the unsightly butts. Mostly, I guess it's because they are too lazy to put it out, or don't want to be distracted while driving. They don't realize how dangerous this can be, as a flying, lit cigarette can cause a fire or injury to another driver. Best idea -- If you have to smoke, don't smoke while driving! Wait till you reach your destination, or before you take off.

Two of my friends were nearly killed by this careless, thoughtless, selfish act. They were traveling down the highway and someone threw their butt out the window. It landed in the back of their truck (borrowed from a family member) and hit a box of dirty mechanics rags. (The family member was a mechanic) There were also two tanks of acetaline in the back. Someone alerted them to the fire in the bed of truck and they were able to pull over and get out just before the truck exploded.

I think smokers who throw there butts out their windows and on the ground are selfish, rude and completely inconsiderate of others. My friends could have DIED! All because those smokers didn't want their evidence of their own dirty habit in their car. Keep your trash to yourself!

I have been a smoker for..maybe 30 years,..and NO.. I wouldn't do that. It also bothers me because the paper, and the tobacco break down, but the filter stays there FOREVER!! If you've ever cleaned a park or whatever after an event, thats what you're cleaning up....hundreds of filters!!!! UGH!

I hate them too, and there's no way one could possibly defend this kind of behavior. In my country not only do they throw them out of the window of their cars but also on the floor when there's no trash can or ash tray nearby.... that SUCKS! It's dirty and inconsiderate. As they already said, it's littering......
