It looks good...apart from the healthcare....but it looks good on TV...what are the best and worst things to you about bringing up your family in the U.S.A.?

Both 'Sonya' and 'RileysMo' have put forward good arguments for the US but I would like to say, "NO!"

The reason I am giving this answer is that the cultural attitude of people in the US is appalling. It is gun-crazy, money-grabbing and, to some (I am not talking from a religious standpoint), indecent & immoral.
Americans are very insular and generally know nothing about the history, culture or politics of other nations. Also, Americans believe their government is democratic when it is not, and the US has never been truely democratic (electoral system, genuine right of free speech, right of assembly etc).

I think this is an awesome place to raise a family. There's so many options for education and cultural teachings. We have so many freedoms that alot of other countries do not. Our children are able to be mostly stress free until adulthood with lots of modern conveniences. When in a bad spot, there's lots of resources and helpful people who are willing to lend a hand.

I know alot of people say how bad violence and such is, but the violence here is alot less than in places like Iran and Isreal. As for violence on tv, I don't like television.... My house doesn't have cable. We just watch movies through netflix. If there's a show we really want to see, we download it on our computer or rent the discs when it comes to dvd. This allows us to control the flow of the media that comes in our home.

You think health care is a problem in the US? Is that why people are coming from Canada to get it? This is a great country to raise a child in. The best things? It is a land of great opportunity. There is freedom to believe whatever way you want and if you disapprove of something you can say so without fear of the government arresting you. You can own a gun to protect your family from criminals. What country is better and why?

any of us can come up with a long list of things that should be better. but the fact is, the vast majority of us in the U.S. have got things way way easier than most of the people on the planet. let's see: my kids have shelter, food, education, time and money for recreation, the chance to pursue the career they want.... And before I get started on all the things I wish were different (media, consumer-driven culture, healthcare, education, prejudice, etc.) I'm rational enough to realize that even having the basics already means my kids are truly lucky to be growing up here.

It entirely depends on where you live - some areas have very poorly funded schools, some places have horrid pollution - a few miles from where I live studies have shown children to have increased lung problems due to the amount of interstate traffic.

On the other hand, some places can be quite good - it's a wonderful place to be... provided you can afford the wonderful parts.
