Sure will. As a matter of fact, Sony was one of the companies that help developed the BluRay in the first place. So other BluRay players made by some of the other companies are using some of Sony's technology. Sony and Pioneer developed BluRay together.
Funny though, Sony developed BluRay and is in competition with HD-DVD, which was made by Toshiba... Now, Sony helped develope the Cell Processor, which was developed along side Toshiba and IBM. The Cell Processor and BluRay are both in the PS3. I don't know... That's funny to me.

Essentially the concensus seems to be that the PS3 plays Blu-Ray movies as well, if not better, then any standalone Blu-Ray player out there. It is also certainly better then any older Blu-Ray player because it supports firmware upgrade via the internet, wheras only the newest standalone players have been enchanced with this feature. Also, I haven't confirmed this for myself, but I hear that since the hardware is so powerful on the PS3, that you can navigate a Blu-Ray disc faster... such as when going through different menus of the DVD and accessing special features. Furthermore, I believe the PS3 plays more formats most or all other Blu-Ray players... for example a PS3 with the newest firmware can play DivX files (not sure if the Xbox 360 can or not yet). PS3 also has web browsing capability and if you don't get the dumbed down model you'll be able to play PS1 and PS2 games as well. The PS3 should have as good a warranty as most pieces of electronic hardware and certain stores may offer extended warranties. I actually never heard about this "motor issue". I don't see why switching discs would effect the motor. And yeah.. it plays games too ;) Cheers.

its the exact same thing. like the other guy said maybe not as many features but who really uses all the extra garbage on video players anyways. all you need is a play, stop FF,RW button. If you are a gamer at all get the ps3 since its an all in one system because a stand alone bluray player is going to cost just as much as the premium PS3 system!

Pretty much, and the latest firmware update upgraded it to the new 1.1 spec (which players need to get the full benefit of some of the new discs coming out next year which include things like pic in pic) so you're fairly well future proofed.

It's just as good as any other Blu-Ray players. The only diffrence really is navigating menus and such, just like on any other console DVD player.

yeah from what I see, it may not have as many features as a regular blu ray player, but it does the job.
