Did you pay with a credit card? Call them and ask if they provide extended warranty protection. If they do not, then tell them you want to file a dispute against Aldi for the charge, for selling you defective merchandise. I guarantee, when your credit card takes the money back from Aldi, you will find that they are suddenly a whole lot more responsive in speaking with you to work out a resolution. Good luck!

You have an absolute right to a refund.
Aldi's 30 day policy probably was only intended if you changed your mind. It cannot be enforced against a failed telly when they are unable to repair or replace it in a reasonable time.

Please read all about your rights under the Sale of Goods Act. (link below). They cannot abrogate their responsibility to provide you with a working television set or your money back.

You really should also phone your local Trading Standards Office (see Yellow Pages) as soon as you can (this coming Monday morning in fact) and report the attitude of your dealer.
I think that you will find that Aldi's "replace only" policy is illegal in your circumstances because it's apparent that they can't honour it.

Trading Standards will investigate and prosecute if necessary.

As an afterthought. Promise me that you won't buy any "strange brand" television sets from Any supermarket (any and every) ever again. They may seem like a bargain but they are all notoriously unreliable and often lacking in features. The old adage "buy cheap, buy twice" applies.

I'm sorry to hear you have learned the hard way about buying cheap televisions from supermarkets.

Under English consumer law (Scottish law is different), you are entitled to a replacement, repair or refund of the defective TV.

Check the Sale of Goods Act (1979) for full details of your rights. Good luck!

This is a brilliant site with all info on refunds and exchanges.
That TV must be in stock as I saw it yesterday in the 2 Aldi stores near my house.
