Games from PS2 won't work on 40GB version. Most games from PS1 will.

Sorry, the 40gig is not backwards compatible.
Only the 20gig, 60gig, and 80gig, are backwards compatible, w/ the 20 and 60gig playing 95% of ps1/ps2 games, and the 80gig playing 75% of ps1/ps2 games.

you should have gotten him the 60 gb one that way all games are compatable the 40 GB only reads ps3 games

i think that sony took the ps1 and ps2 emulator out of the ps3 40gb
idk why, ithink to get you to buy one of the million ps2's they have left in stock
