My father is increasingly getting mad when told "no" or if he wants something done and I can't do it right then. He is not frail or homebound or anything like that. My latest is that he asked me if he could put something in my garage that I just had built and the inside is not done. MY stuff is not in there yet and I explained this to him and he has not spoken to me in 3 weeks and when I asked if he is coming for Christmas was told he has other plans. He acts more and more like a spoiled brat if he doesn't get his own way. My grandmother was like this too but not to this extent. Any advice or websites that would help would be greatly appreciated.

I have asked him questions but all I get is "if a friend asked you, you would" , "after all I've done for you" and plenty of attitude. He's always been one to give the "cold shoulder" when mad and I think he loves it that I have called and invited him to Christmas dinner AGAIN, with no response yet.

It can be an early sign of impending dementia. In fact it's one of the classic signs.
I used to work in a dementia care facility, and irrational anger is very common.

Old people sometimes act like children. I can say this as I am old. LOL Try to have a little more patience with him and let some things go in one ear and out the other. Sorry to say he will only get worse over time.

Sit him down and lay down your house rules.
If he wants to visit, or stay, he abides by your house rules, for example not interfering with the household , the children, the do's and the dont's etc..
You have to be firm, otherwise it gets worse.
Soon he will be old, and possibly not able to look after himself, and might stay by you, and you don't want him ordering you around and taking all your time, sort it out now so he can change his attitude asap.

Is there a way you can get him to a doctor and have him checked for mini-strokes? A sudden attitude change is often a sign of a mini stroke.

Or alzheimers or other type of dimentia.

Just take your time with him and you should just tell him he could put the stuff in the garage and just move it somewhere else til your done.

it's a normal for any person of any age to get angry...the issue is how you show it and what do you do about it..obviously, you shouldn't have your anger lead you to do a stupid act, like road rage, or abusiveness wether verbal or otherwise.
