we are to worship Christ and His teachings will allow us happiness -- more so in the next life. you had a poster who spoke of raising a child versus an abortion -- he his the nail on the head. even Christ Himself, when praying in the garden prior to His Passion would not have minded a little happiness for Himself ("If it's Your Will, take this cup from Me) -- he sacrificed for US -- you and I. I'm so thankful He wasn't selfishly thinking of His own "Happiness".

The Pope said that? Rock On! I have new found respect for the Pope.
I do agree with him. It's having a tremendous impact on our modern culture and very few of us consider ourselves happy as a result.

Yes, I agree. It is more important to be right than to be happy. He's not saying it's wrong to be happy, ideally we'd always be happy. He's just saying we can't seek happiness at all costs. An example: It may make me and my girl friend happier to get an abortion rather than deal with the responsibility of a child or the pain of adoption, but it would be wrong. The philosophy that if it makes you happy it must be right, is wrong.

though i respect the popes, sometimes they utter some ridiculous nonsense...our constitution allows us the pursuit of happiness. so if i'm an american catholic and admire the u.s. constitution, would that make me unwelcome in heaven after i die ???
RATzinger is an ideologue and theological/philosophical thinker. he's the former head of the department of doctrine of faith...sort of like the head of the thought police..Jesus preached to ALL mankind and didn't target philosophers. the common man needs to be happy to live a worthy life. so i don't agree with "el papa".

What does that even mean?
As if the Pope and the RC Church organization hold the high ground in morality these days...

Uh-huh. Well when he stops blessing pagan objects like the olympic torch, I might start listening to his garbage. Go to your local library, most have reams of info on this pagan.

I don't follow the pope. I follow Jesus Christ. Jesus has already told us all what we should and shouldn't do. I don't need the pope's advice. Thanks anyway
