We're planning on going to California for a wedding this summer and we have a 2 year old. We haven't flown with him since he turned 2. Just wondering if we have to pay full price or if there's a child rate for a 2 year old? Also, are there requirements like having a proper carseat for them to sit in?
I've looked up information on airline websites but everything seems kind of vague and I don't want to bother going through all the "press 1 for this, press 2 for that" to ask a simple question on the phone. Thanks!

I'm fairly sure that most airlines are full price if they're over 2 because they Have to have a seat. They offer the discount for kids under 2 who could go as lap children.
They don't need a car seat on a plane but there are more pros than cons to using one. Safety, the fact that little ones can slip out of regular belts when they get bored, and he'll be used to staying in his car seat and comfortable in it because it's familiar.

Most airlines require that children over age 2 have their own full-price seat. A carseat is recommended, but not required.

It depends on which airline you fly. Southwest you would have to pay full price. I believe with Northwest, there is a discount. I don't know about the others... Most of the airlines websites, you can mess around for a while and find prices. Good luck!

He would pay full price and the car seat can not be too big, they were checking if mine went past the edge of the seat, we only brought it because we were not checking baggage, and it was along flight. On a long flight it might be good if you don't want to hold him when he sleeps, on short flights I hold my kids, to nurse them on the take of and landing, it is more comfortable for their ears this way.

Yes, you may. Neither the airline nor the TSA will find this out of the ordinary -- people buy regular tickets for their infants all the time, in order to have the seat and be able to use a car seat.

The price of a ticket is for the seat. so, a toddler takes up a seat, the price of the ticket is the same.

most airlines will let a child under 3 fly for free if they sit in the parents lap and once you get on the plane if no ones beside you they will let the child sit in an empty seat.
