she was 3 at the end of July and she has always seemed bright to me...but whatever...I could just think that because we all do don't we? Anyway...she made this song up tonight...

Oh mermaid swimming across the sea,
Oh you don't love me.
and now your picture has fallen into the sea,
And oh you dont love me.

Bizzarrely good for a 3 year old....or just normal? She has always spoken very well...she started at 10 months and regularly asks me questions I can't answer....so, am I just a normal proud Mommy or is she rather smart? I dont know any other kids her age.

Wow...the song itself sounds sad. She probably doesn't even realize what she is saying. That is awesome that she can incorporated rhyming words at that age though!

I think it is normal for children to make up songs all the time. I don't think it is a special gift. My children all do it. It's part of their creative imagination.

So, don't go out and put her on tv or be the mom who thinks her child is best. This has nothing to do with it. Wait till she is older and see if she really is smart!

If ur concerned with the lyrics of the song just ask her what the song is about. most 3 yr olds make up songs like this and some for no reason at all but then again some have a reason.

None of my boys could do those either at 3. Once they went to preschool at 4 they picked it up quickly. Kids this age have short attention spans and are still developing motor skills. You could sit with him and work with him on doing circles and smile faces, tracing hands writing ABC 123 etc, He may pick up from you. Suggest a preschool for him, that the social and educational skills would be great plus it would give her time to get her stuff done while he is there.

Very interesting for a 3 year old. Never know, she may be an aspiring writer one day. Kids do pick up EVERTHING they hear so it could just be a combination of things she's heard and simply repeating. My son says clever little things all the time but TV and music these days has changed. I say wherever you see talent in a child nurture it and encourage them to continue.

She's good with words. Quite good.
I wonder what she was thinking about? Enjoy it! Write it down! I remember a song I made when I was 5. Not every child makes songs, but it's fun when they do.

That's normal and shows she has good imagination. My four year old comes up with some pretty good songs too. It really cracks me up sometimes.

Smart. Wouldn't worry about implication of the lyrics - probably just "nonsense words" to her. Also, could be trying to shock mommy with the lyrics.

good, but probably doesn't mean anything to her. just words to her, but yeah, encourage her to think of songs, but don't force her.
