Go for the cheap option. Vaseline or petroleum jelly overnight. Put it on your hands and then wear cotton gloves (or old socks on your hands) to keep the bed clean. Feels horrible when it's first on, but lovely in the morning because, by then, it's all soaked in. Do this for a few nights in a row and your hands will soften up. Then just use hand cream every day. Keep your hands warm in cold weather and don't keep sticking them in water. If you do, put cream on immediately afterwards. If you find they go dry again shortly afterwards, you might have psoriasis or eczema. Doing the above won't hurt but if you do have P or E, you could then try Hope's Relief Cream. It won't cure the condition but it will make it a lot better. Good luck.

Sort out the cause first. Dehydration? drink more water. Are you in contact with cleaning fluids, hot water, irritants etc? Wear good quality rubber gloves, or cotton lined rubber gloves for any chores. Cold weather? wear gloves and wrap up warm.

Buy a rich handcream- any hand and nail cream will do. Everytime you wash your hands, apply afterwards. Use day and night. Keep moisturising and massage in deeply to all parts of hands and fingers. Best is cocoa or shea butter, Vit e cream is excellent too. E45 is rubbish and neutrogena.

Consult your doctor about dermatitis or eczema if it doesn't go. Simply look after your hands, like you would your face and you won't go wrong. I use my best face cream on them. Also, keep nails well cut and clean and use a nail buffer for nails, not a metal file(recommended by my manicurist).

Use a barrier cream (available from Boots chemists) in addition to moisturising creams, as it will prevent moisture loss rather than simply replacing lost moisture from your hands. I am a chef with dermatitis and of course wash my hands goodness knows how many times during the working day. Apply barrier cream when you first get up in the morning and moisturising creams throughout the day and at night.
Drinking plenty of water was good advice also.

Try Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream for dry skin relief. It was originally designed for the fishermen on the trawlers who's skin gets so cracked and dry from the salt water - It's fragrance free and a little goes a long way.

Any of the potions mentioned are good. You do need to apply dozens of times every single day. One of the best is Olay. Aloe Vera is excellent. Vitamins can help damaged skin. If you have real problems, speak to your doctor or pharmacist because you might just need to be taking skin treatment by mouth or bathing in special preparations.

Both of the above creams are suitable, particularly aqueous, you can use this cream as a hand cream or washing cream, you can also cover your hands with it then wear 100% cotton gloves to bed, do this nightly. If symptoms persist see your doctor.
