Take your dog to the Vet. The Vet can give him an antibiotic shot plus will clean the claw and very probably has better dressings than you do for the broken nail.
Do you really want to take a chance on it becoming infected and your dog losing a toe or maybe even a foot?
Be kind to your dog - take your dog to the Vet!

NO!!!!!! and NO neded for vet bills! Trust me.
All you have to do is keep it very clean, wash it several times a day. The dogs nail cracked from being too long. use a nail file and gently smooth down the size of the rest of the nails. As far as your dog healing. she/ he will heal fine. It will take some time though. There is nothing they would do for the pain.. Just gently rub her foot, do not wrap it, it will cause backteria blockage. They will keep the bacteria off of it them selves. It will hurt your feelings when you wash her foot (with antibacterial soap) because it will hut her and she will look at you all sad, like a child would do. But Mom has to do what a Mom has to do right?

If the nail isn't bleeding (which would be really lucky for you) just keep it clean. Wrapping it up might trap infection in there. If the nail IS bleeding, and you don't have "Kwik Stop" (a styptic powder for nails) I've heard you can use flour or corn starch to stop the bleeding. The best thing to do, of course, is to call your vet. The nail could need more care than this.

You can dremel the nail as well instead of clipping - just make sure it doesn't overheat (the dremel, not the nail) and take it slow to avoid the quick. We use the no sting new skin and a loose wrap of gauze and sport wrap

Yes, cut the broken piece off, clean with antibiotic soap, and if an open wound, use anitbiotic cream and wrap it up. Only wrap it if it is an open wound. Dogs will heal quickly by themselves by licking the wound.

If the dogs isn't in soreness and isn't any longer bleeding, let it flow, yet verify it once an afternoon. If it receives swollen or red or warm to the contact, if the dogs starts to limp, then he has to flow to the vet. you would ask mom to call the vet and ask the thanks to save it from getting contaminated.
