Biker Rob is right.

Frankly, I don't even know if you can buy a 1080i screen in the US at least. All I ever see for sale is 720p or 1080p.

1080i is the maximum being broadcast now. A 1080p set will show that the best, because it's got a native resolution (the actual number of lines) built on the TV.

1080p is better than 1080i but in the USA no cable, satellite or over the air broadcast are in 1080p an will not be any time soon due to U.S. standards and band width. So if your getting it for HDTV viewing don't spend the extra on 1080p you don't need it. But if you want the most out of a PS3, Blue-Ray and some HD-DVD players 1080p would be nice. Make sure you get a HDTV with at least 2 or more HDMI inputs and a QAM (digital cable) tuner. A 720p HDTV will show 1080i,720p,480p,480i so the only thing you can't view is1080p and a 720p set is a lot less money. I hope this helped, enjoy.
