Do you go by the colour, like patches, if the pet is multi coloured, or do you go by their behaviour? My dog died 3yrs. ago he was 14yrs. old. His name was Nicki, but his nick name was Boo Boo, yeah, you know like the little Boo Boo from Yogi Bear! I used his nick name more often, he just looked like a Little Boo Boo. When I went out with him, of course he was this little dog with a big heart and big confidence in himself so I had to call him Nicki so he wouldn't be embarassed! lol

I have 8 dogs
i have a golden named sandy we named her that because we took her to apark that had sand laid out on it and we couldnt find her because her hair is similar to the ground.
i have a mutt named Dallas because she has brown and black on her.
and another named Suzy Q which is a schnauser we usually call her Q, Sue, or Suzy but we named her that because she barks so much that we got the name frome the baby doll Suzy talks alot.
i have a flat coat/ lab mix and named Beary we call her bear sometimes and we named her that because she looks like a bear.

Here's how our pets got named
Precious: came with her name.. her nicks are Bitty (because she's itty bitty) and Poofers.
D'Lila: came with the name too, I just changed the spelling. She doesnt have a nick.
Grey Cat: my brother named her that because she is Grey. We just call her "Grey" for short
Gozer: We were trying to decide a name and my other brother was suggesting Ghostbuster themed names.. somehow this one stuck. We calle her Goze for short.
Boukie:.. was orignally "bush baby" because mom found her in the bushes.. she started to get called spooky because she isnt very friendly, but mom was attatched and called her pookie instead.. and then started being cute and calling her "Boukie Bear".
Bo Jangles: he has 4 white feet and it reminded dad of Boe Jangles and his white shoes. My brother calls him Vins (Im not sure why?)
Chessie: dad couldnt think of a name, he wanted train themed names for his 2 kittens. One day she was laying on a pillow and it reminded him of the Chessie kitten you see on the side of the Chessie system cars. She doesnt have a nick.
Smokey: is actually black, but as a kitten she was a very dark smokey grey. Dad calls her "mokie monkey"
Tabbi: is a tabby cat. I know, just as original as Grey cat. We call her Tubby tho because she's fat.
Barney: came with his name. He hasnt been here long, so we dont have a nick for him yet.
Sissy: came with her name, and it fits her. She doesnt really have a nick either tho.
Fred: his name has a story LOL. Before I got Fred, my ex hubby would often use the phrase "Sh*t the bed, Fred".. I would pick on him and tell him that Fred didnt poop the bed. At some point I started joking about naming my future Crested "Fred". I wasnt serious about it.. but I did start referring to my future Crested as Fred anyways.. "Im going to feed Fred this brand of food, we will need to get a crate and other supplies before we bring Fred home, etc" I still wasnt serious about naming him Fred tho. Well, when I got him.. the name stuck.. he was a Fred. His nicks: Fat boy, Bath boy, nekkid butt, lil donkey, and Derf (Fred spelled backwards).

I'm so sorry about Boo Boo! I lost my St. Bernard (Budda) of 11 years this past August. I know the pain :(
When I got my 3 month boxer, I named her Isis (the Egyptian goddess). I tend to stick to God's and Goddesses. Her name nick names are now "Icey girl, mamma girl, and izzy ice (she's 6 months now), and responds to all of them!
I think if you stare at a puppy, and look into their eyes, the name just comes to you.
Good luck!
Rob

We usually pick names and nick names based on their personality!
Like Sassie-The day we brought her home she acted like a little snooty goody-two shoes and pouted all day under the couch!
Sorry to hear about Boo Boo, I lost my best friend Tar when I was 8 years old on Chirstmas day.
I know the pain =[

When i was trying to find a name, I went to baby names websites. I don't really like "dog" names, so i went to this site where you are able to type in the meaning of the name you want your dog( or baby)to have. My dog is mostly black so I typed in black hair, dark hair etc. and found the name Keira means "dark haired beauty" in gealic. Its great for naming dogs those wonderful "people" names that you may not want to name your child. Like olive , marge or albina ( some of keira's friends)

Most of my dogs came with their names - I did change one dog's name from Brandi - to Ida - which was a great name for her - she was my son's doberman.
I once caught him cuddling her on the couch singing quietly to her
Ida bida
my-da Ida-bida
Sweety-pie-da
Ida bida
Truly a love song.
She's gone now but I deeply miss her.
My current doggie-boy is a tan/white pit bull named Blue. I changed his name to Baby Blue - because who's afraid of a pit bull named Baby Blue. But he also goes by
Blue-boy
Ole Blue - you good dog you
Little Boy Blue
Mommy's little man
Mommy's baby
I also have a 15 year old border collie named Shadow - a name she came with and lives up to. I call her Mommy's little girl.

Sorry to hear about your dog.
It guess it just depends. I had an Aussie named Dusty. He looked like he had dust on his face. His nickname was "Fuzzball."
The Aussie I have now is named Izzy. It was kind of a joke - Is he going to be good? Is he going to be bad? You get the idea! My husband has nicknamed him Dizzy b/c he gets excited when he comes home and spins in circles for a couple of minutes.

We named our yellow Lab mix "Dott" because of a perfectly round white spot on her forehead right between her eyes.
The spot lengthend as she grew, but for a few weeks when she was a baby, it looked like a 3rd eye. LOL!
My brothers absolutely hated "Dottie", so she is NEVER called that. We called her "bad dog" for a little while when she was young. Does that count?
