I recently got fired because of a ***** of a duty manager complaining about me eating a sandwich I hadn't paid for (no money).I'm currently appealing against the "formal dismissal" but the big problem is (as you all know) it's right before Christmas so I can't get Christmas temp. jobs let alone permanent part-time work.
So two things:
1. How long should I leave it before I actually check they've got my appeal letter? (It's been four days now)
2. ANY ideas for making money? (Besides selling my body/ sperm/ organs etc, didn't turn out well the last couple of time =P jokes)

This was a one off incident and yes admittedly I guess it was theft, the reason the manager is such a b***h though is 'cos she steals on a regular basis. I didn't have any proof to back a claim up though =[.
I'm 18, can't drive and I live in a rural area with the nearest city about 15 miles away so it's pretty hard to find a job.

Whew. That's a tough one.
You're just checking to see if they got the letter, right? Do that asap! Be specific about the fact that you only want to make sure they received the letter, and mention that you know it's too soon to hear about a decision.
As for work... You could try freelance writing. There are sites online that hire daily for that type of work (some is just data entry, some is promotional, etc.).
Also, I would try looking for a seasonal retail job at the mall. Some of those places are hurting now because the people they hired in October never planned to work over the Christmas holiday. They may be in a lurch and in desperate need of someone.
You'll be one of the only people looking for a job right now, so employers looking for someone fast won't have much to choose from. Take advantage of that by getting your resume online asap and applying for jobs now!
I wish you luck!

First, if you were not supposed to eat the sandwich, it was theft. You may view it as minor, or even because you were broke, but it still was theft. Now, don't bank on your appeal.
If you have other references use them and skip this past job, unless you have had it for any length of time. Most temp jobs would hire you without an extensive background. Do that until you get your situation resolved. Jobs like moving companies, janitorial or fast food until you get a reference established.

Yeah, some bosses are jerks, liars .etc.
My dad's old boss was.
Try and get a small shop job. Dont be ashamed - you'll get some cash, and a good home, and I think a discount on food. Tesco's is a good place to start. If you have no smart clothes, go to the charity shop and say you dont have much cash, and need some clothes, their bound to give some to you, if they dont say "This is a charity shop".
Need a temp place? Apply at the council. They provide you with a short-term flat, providing you work.
Hope this helps hun.
Good luck!

Mike, have you considered working for yourself? Contrary to popular belief (normally by those that have joined, done nothing, then quit), network marketing is a fantastic business model which, providing there is a readily marketable product, can and does produce a lot of very rich people (not just those that "get in first.")
The start up costs are small in comparison to the gains you make, providing of course you put in consistent effort.
I wish you all the best of luck in your choice of career, and feel free to email me if you have any questions about network marketing.
John.

Why can't you file for unemployment or get a job at a temp agency? That shouldn't hold you back. Just don't use them as a reference when looking for a job.
