Because it is fun.
I do have a habit of breaking spaghetti into 3 parts before I cook it though.

Because the idea of cutting spaghetti into tiny pieces and then trying to chase it with a fork is even more so, also chop sticks are nice as it slows the rate of consumption making time for you to enjoy the unique flavors of well prepared asian food or to pretend it has unique flavors I guess if is not well prepared.

I love my spaghetti long and have no trouble eating it. My husband insists on cutting his up - it's not attractive watching a grown man eating spaghetti like a 3 year old - I'd never cook it for a romantic meal with him.
Chop sticks are great - Some things are a real challenge, like catching and holding on to those little round Chinese mushrooms :-)

Well, if you twirl it right on the spoon it's very easy to eat. Have you ever tried to cut up spagetti? I find it harder to eat because it slips off the spoon. Besides, I think it's fun!
As for chop sticks, I imagine to people who grew up using them or use them every day they find it just as easy as knives etc. For myself, I find it very difficult and frustrating and always gives up.

The proper way to eat spaghetti is twirling it on a spoon-whole.

forks knives and spoons are a western invention. Chopsticks are a Chinese invention and I prefer to have my Chinese 'chinese style' with chopsticks!
I also happen to like my spaghetti long.

You must a WASP to even have that thought cross your mind. It kind of like asking someone why they would travel when they can just buy a magazine with pictures of far off places.
Its all about flavor and texture.

IF you roll spaghetti there is no reason it can't be consumed whole. Now, slurping it into your mouth is another story.

It's called tradition. Without tradition in food and many other things life would be boring. (Thinks....) Perhaps life is going that way.
