The Bible states there is only one God. Even in the Bible it says "God's words were made flesh" this is New Testament referring to Jesus's conception. He also ascended to Heaven after resurrecting (very godlike). In the book of John, Jesus says "me and the father are one".

Deut. 32:39; 1 Sam. 2:6 - the Lord kills and makes alive again and raises up - John 5:21 - the Son raises and gives life.

2 Sam. 22:3 - God is the horn of salvation - Luke 1:68-69 - Jesus is the horn of salvation.

Psalm 97:9 - the Lord God is above all - John 3:31 - Jesus is above all.

Isaiah 48:17 - God is the Holy One - Acts 3:14 - Jesus is the Holy One.

Because it is the undeniable truth dealing with all the revelation in scripture. Scripture tells us 3 very important things:

1. There is but one God
2. God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit are God
3. Each of those 3 are distinct from the other.

Therefore, to make sense of revealed scripture, we believe there is but one eternal being who is God, eternally revealed in 3 distinct persons, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit; each coequally and coeternally the one and only God.

The real truth is because every one else does. Some monk in the early centuries preached it and so we subsequently stand up for it at all costs.
