Theme? is this a wedding or a production?????lol
perhaps I'm a bit old fashioned but these 'theme weddings' are beyond me (and I've been married twice, once with the big formal lavish white wedding, the second a wonderfully intimate home wedding/celebration)...I picked the dress, the colors/dresses the attendants wore, the tuxes, the menu, the flowers....theme??????
I've a suggestion dear....a theme may be the style these days with the young people ( and I've seen all kinds of suggestions here such as goth weddings, victorian vampire weddings, fairy tale princess weddings).....in ten years or so will you feel the same about your theme when whipping out your wedding pix to show your children....."see? Mommy & Daddy's wedding....we're the one with the matching vampire teeth ....the ones dressed all in black"......keep it in good taste for good taste never goes out of style & endures for years and years to come...you want your album to be something proud of, not looking like a costume party run amok...Good Luck Sweetheart!

We're getting married (ceremony, cocktails and reception) at the zoo, so our theme is, well, the zoo! Instead of numbering the tables we're naming them zoo animal names. The place cards are wooden cutouts of the animal with the guest's name printed on it. The favors are party-favor bags in animal print that we're putting zoo-themed things in (gummy fangs, animal pens, temporary animal tattoos, foam animal masks, etc.). We're having the DJ play Simon and Garfunkel's "At the Zoo" as our guests gather at the gate. The programs will have an animal motif. We're making our invitations, which includes an animal-shaped charm tied into the ribbon, and the reply cards are zoo post cards.
Obviously, this works only if your wedding is at the zoo, but think about a theme related to your venue (it is a country (golf) club? a stately landmark?). I've seen themes around the couple's hobbies or interests, or a period in history (a friend wore her mother's 1950s satin wedding dress, and worked that elegant '50s party theme in, but subtly).

There wasn't really a theme. Everything was elegant and perfect. We live in Hawaii and got married in Hawaii. Our wedding took place at the Sheraton Hotel on a huge balcony / terrace overlooking the beach.
My wife walked down the aisle to the song "So In Love with You" by Unviersal Nubian Voices. Great song! That was my idea.
Our centerpieces started with these cyrstal vases that we had profesionally etched with our names, date, and some flower design. Then the vases were filled with white roses, baby's breaths, and some other floral arrangement. Not too much color or it will become distracting.
Our reception at the Sheraton had great food served inside this ballroom. Besides the desserts that the hotel served, we also had these chocolate dipped Chinese fortune cookies made for our wedding. It was a little bigger than the fortune cookies from a restaurant. There was one cookie at each seat. But inside was a fortune paper that had our picture on it and it read "Thank you for sharing this special day with us". Our guests really thought that it was great touch. A lot of them saved the fortune paper for a souvenir.
I don't know if they do this in the mainland, but during the reception we had a slide show. Our photographer put it together. I recommend this. I got together my pictures from the time I was born, elementary school, high school, pics with friends and family, etc. And my wife gathered her pics also. Then our photographer puts all the pics in a slide show presentation sort of like power point. But he adds in music. The slide show will show a time line of each person from the baby pics til adult. Then it shows pics of the both of us together. It gives the guests a sense of each individual's past and upbringing. Everyone loved it.
My answer is so long there is so much more to are wedding that I could go on and on.
Congratulations and good luck with all of your planning!

We did a 1940s USO red white and blue theme! My husband is in the military and I have always loved the romance of the 40s! We had it aboard a WWII battle cruiser (the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi)
We decorated with red white and blue-- mostly white and red with touches of blue. It was hard, but worth it to keep it looking TASTEFUL and not a tacky red white and blue. We played all 1940s music, and used my grandparents 1944 wedding picture as our invitation, with a note that encouraged but not demanded guests dress in era costumes.
The boys wore fedoras, red vests and ties, with black pants and shirts, the girls in matching red tea length halter dresses and peep toe pumps.
I wore a lacey off white vintage looking wedding dress!
Everything was cheap and simple, vintagey and relaxed just like a wedding in the 1940s would have been! (Thrown together before your soldier boy ships out!!)
It was wonderful! Everyone loved it!
Good luck, and congrats!

For my first marriage, the theme was stars. I got that silver tinsel wire with the foil stars to decorate the ceiling and make centerpieces. And white Christmas lights on the ceiling too, to make it sparkle like we were dancing under the stars. If I could buy anything with stars, I did. Needless to say, that marriage didn't work out, but it was pretty!
This marriage, our theme was black, and we went to the JP and then had breakfast. Heh.

My theme is double interlocking hearts. They seem to be very popular right now because I can find them everywhere!
My invitations are double interlocking hearts, as are many of the things I'm using to decorate for the reception. My BM's are wearing double interlocking heart necklaces, and then there are just tons of other little things. Of course, we are using hearts that are not double interlocking as well. So, the theme is more like, just "hearts."
Congrats on the wedding!

The theme of our wedding was starry night. Our colors were navy blue and silver. For favors we had a chocolate maker make us chocolate stars which we put in white boxes decorated with a label with our names and graphic from our reception card on it. Our invitations were a man and woman sitting on a crescent moon with stars in the background. We created a cookbook from our guests favorite recipes and called it Cooking Under the Stars and gave that as a favor as well. The bridesmaids wore navy blue two piece dresses with silver embroidery on the shoulder. The guys were in navy blue tuxes with silver vests and ties. The pew bows were made out of navy blue ribbon edged in silver with silver flecks on it. The centerpieces were placed on navy blue fabric with silver stars stamped on it. The ice sculpture was two stars connected with our names on it. Our cake had silver stars on it and a silver star topper that our baker made. Then it had an indoor roman candle in the top which was lit right before we cut the cake. My girls decided that they wanted silver stars woven into their hair when they had it done the day of the wedding. That was a neat surprise and turned out really cool! The bridesmaids carried candles with flowers at the base of the holder. There were candles at each pew. It turned out to be a gorgeous wedding and reception. We got a lot of compliments on it.

Theme? I didn't know my wedding was supposed to have a theme so I guess the theme was hey we are getting married!
The girls wore periwinkle and the guys wore silver vests. Other than that there wasn't a "theme" It was a wedding not a luau.
