Playstation 3 Games are ONLY for Playstation 3.
Playstation 2 Games are for Playstation 2 and Playstation 3.

Unfortunately no....i am sorry for all the rudeness on here in the answers. Some people aren't up on the latest technology ****oles chill out!!!! If you would like to play rock band you would need to either purchase the ps3 or an xbox 360. 360 is cheaper and the games are far better however the system is somewhat unreliable. The cheapest way to go is 360 + rock band

sorry its not the same format. PS3 is Blue-ray and that will not work on an older player. like can you play a DVD on a Normal CD player?

No, the ps3 games are Blu Ray discs so they won't work on your ps2. It will work the other way around.

It is the same as: Will PS2 games work on PS1? Of course NO!
Better question is if PS2 games will work on 3?

'Fraid not; it doesn't have the hardware to support it, nor will it ever. That would defeat the purpose of purchasing a PS3 almost entirely; Sony aren't that stupid (well, actually..).

No - only the other way around, and even then not all games.

Nope. Completely different coding and the PS2 can't handle that much information.
