I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism yesterday and prescribed Synthroid. I am relieved that the diagnosis will be the answer to many of my problems. How soon has anyone seen results with problems like hair loss, fatigue and weight gain after starting on Synthroid?

I started noticing improvement immediately. Give it a little time. I think you may have to do a little extra to lose the weight.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism back in June and with low adrenal function in November. I took Levoxyl (same thing as Synthroid) for 5 months and was then changed to Armour in November. I have been having ups and downs and I'm still working with my doc on finding the right dose and combination of meds. From what others have told me, it can take a year to find what works for you and makes you feel better. I, too, have the hair loss, fatigue and excess weight. I think my hair loss has slowed down and my fatigue has gotten a little better, but the weight remains. I was so happy to finally have a reason for feeling so crappy and was hoping that taking meds would be a magic cure, but I'm finding that it does take time and patience. Good luck and hang in there if things don't go as quickly as you'd like them to.

It will take at least 6 weeks to 3 months before you notice a big difference. You may see slight differences like in fatigue level sooner. Dosage will take a fw months to get correct. Remember to always test first thing in the morning for the proper dosage. On Synthroid, most feel best with a morning TSH around 1.0

You should be less tired in less than a week. It will take time for your hair to grow back. It may not help weight gain at all. I have been on thyroid medicine for 8 years and I am still waiting for it to help with the weight gain.
