My momther in laws father passed and her sons just got arrested. Shes crying and i dont know what to say tp people in times like these. I know im sorry is one thing to say but what else should i say?

you dont really have to say anything just hug her and tell her you are there for her

Your mother in law is grieving and at the same time worried to death about her sons.. so she's going to be going through a rough spell for a while.

If you feel like it, give her a few days, and maybe invite her to lunch, over to your place to see a movie or just let her know you're available for company from time to time..

i also agree with the other answerer here -- let her know you will listen if she needs to vent or talk.

Sometimes there are no words for bad situations...Just let her know that you are there for her if and when she needs you. A strong hug, a soft smile, and a loving personality will go a long way in these situations...

Her just knowing that you are there is like a thousand words.

Realize that there is nothing you can say to take away the pain - sometimes "I'm sorry you have to go thru this" is enough and being a relative, I'm sure you are there for her.

give her a hug. maybe try to get her mind off things for a while. do some bonding.
