My sitter backed out at the last minute, and I can't get to the grocery store to get all of the things I needed for a nice spread (party tomorrow). I have to serve between 20-40 people from the hours of 6 p.m. - midnight - but I now have no time to cook (I have two small kids). I am in a panic, but I know someone here can offer suggestions of a quick, bountiful meal or heavy appetizer that is sure to please without too much complication.

Please help!

You're crazy...take the kids shopping with you...20-40 hungry people will make for a dismal event! lol Okay, here goes...in the event you're not able to get out and shop...

Meatballs-Ground beef, bread crumbs, spices...have the kids help roll the meatballs, they'll love it. Serve on festive colored toothpicks with various dips...melt cheddar and a little creme/milk, or Velveeta, and add spices, or warm barbeque sauce of your choice, also a warm marinara dipping sauce will do well.

Large Salad Bowl...Iceberg lettuce, Fresh Mixed baby greens, tomato wedges, 1/2 boiled eggs, croutons, cubed cheddar cheese, red onions, and maybe olives if you have some in the pantry...serve with various dressings, or toss before the party with what you have in the fridge.

I don't know what you have in the fridge or pantry...hard to come up with recipes...try cooking by numbers...see link below...

Since you can't go out, why not call the grocery store's deli and order party platters??? They ALL have them this time of year from

Mini Croissant Sandwiches

Cheese and Meat Platters

Fruit and Veggie Platters

Hot Wing Platters

Mini Dessert Platters

So, they will cost ya a bit more, but they're be all ready to go when your guests arrive.......all you have to do is pick up the phone and they'll do the rest........MOST GROCERIES NEED AT LEAST 8 HOURS ADVANCE NOTICE, SO DECIDE QUICKLY, THE CLOCK IS TICKING, Enjoy and Good luck!!!

The 3-step cheesecake if you have the few ingredients it needs is really good, easy to make, and only takes a couple of hours to chill. Make a couple to meet the demand for the number of guests. It's really easy to get creative with extra toppings and what-not.

I've made brownies and used the extra brownie batter in the bowl to mix the cheesecake batter making a great chocolaty mix. Poor that on an Oreo crust and some chocolate syrup on top.

Hope this helps. I have no clue what you have in your kitchen to work with.

Call a local restaurant and ask if they can provide some food for you. You could get some appetizers and some italian dishes from your favorite italian joint for a reasonable cost.

Spaghetti or Chili. Quick easy, and most people love them

Go to Sam's and get it all. They have party food in bulk. Just set it out - maybe warm first.
