Perhaps many of you can answer this question. It has
been proven that most Christians lead much happier,
and fuller lives. I mean can you imagine, with the
likes of Madison, Darwin, and more, how they might
have felt while trying to ponder how did so many things
came to be. When you cannot prove that nothing, came
from something. Yes. That is pretty depressing.
Unless you are stupid enough, to think that you came
from an explosion, then you may consider otherwise.
The human spirit is proof, that there is a Divine
Being. That's right. Because the spirit is infinite.
It has no real shape or size. Like the wind. You
can't prove that it actually is there. It is just something,
that you can feel. So my question is this. Why do
Atheists have higher rates of depression ? Best answer
wins. ~~~

Well actually, there is no need
for links my friends. Isn't it obvious
by your choice of expressions.
Your words, way of thought,
distorted perceptions, emotions,
and the way you digest, what is
around you. Which is mostly the
thing, you are against. Take a look
at yourselves deep down inside.
And see why, you feel the way that
you do. It is all irrelevant, and
illogical. Your idea to not believe
is free, yes. But the wall is still right
there in front of you. So there is
your proof......

Ignorance is bliss?

I don't think that we do. The only thing that I get really depressed about is all of the people around me that hide behind their religion so that they don't have to face the fact that science might be onto something. That their made up book might be just that...a book written by people that were never actually there to witness any of the acts of God. People who didn't actually live until 400 years after Jebus (Thank you Homer Simpson) supposedly lived.

It depresses me that this book states that Adam and Eve had two sons who married and so on and so on and no one ever questions where their wives came from. God created Adam and Eve...where the hell did all these other people outside of Eden come from?

It depressed me that an American will put their vote on a lesser candidate just because he belongs to the right religion.

It depresses me that openly talking about your faith, or lack there of, is complete taboo. God forbid anyone be offended because someone shared their opinion publicly and only told what they feel in their hearts to be their own personal truths.

So, I guess based on that, I retract my first statement. I am more depressed than the religious, but at least it's based on facts!

The world is a pretty depressing place. And atheists tend to be more open to the world and all the ideas within it. Theists spend more time thinking about their specific religion while atheists spend this time thinking about other things. Also, it has been proven that the higher education a person has, the more likely they are to be an atheist. It would seen logical that someone completely educated on the history of aggression in the Middle East would be more depressed about the world then someone who can't spell Syria.

Obviously I am just using generalities and not implying anything about all atheists or theists.

the wind can be proven to be their as it has an effect on what is in its way, it is quite incorect to say Dawin was atheistic as he was a believer all his life, and a scientist the difference being the same today he didn't accept the standard theories as to how things are.
atheists have not got a higer rate of depression and it is shown that those with mental health problems tend to be religious, i have had the misfortune to of gone to a mental hospital for detox twice and the majority of people in their had strong belief in god, and one had grand delusions about their place in the cosmos in relation to god,
as per usual you make statements which are not in the slightest true based on your own notions of the world which is very out of place to everyone in reality, grow up do some research then ask a question of some inteligent enquiry

This could be so because they are devoid of spiritual anchor and direction.

Belief provides a person with a sense of something to hold on to. People of religion have their God, no-matter what they call Him and as such, are free to call upon Him for a shoulder to lean on in times of adversity.

As Christians there is always a feeling that with God, light will always exist at the end of every tunnel. This does not only provide solace, it also helps banish despair and despondency.

Yes,Darwin was depressed,he didn't LIKE what the evidence told him,but being a man of reason,he had to go with the evidence.

Are you lying from ignorance?Or malice? You have nothing credible to support your assertion.Even if you did(you don't,you just made it up,a common Christian tactic, after all, that's how YOU got sucked in)Did you ever think maybe we go to Dr's?Count EVERYONE asking for prayer,at the alter, confessing their sins, everyone who dials "prayer warriors".It would seem they were quite depressed, they just went to their snake oil sales...pastor instead.I don't blame Christians for being depressed. My gawd, you are shyt, this life is shyt.Satan is trying to kill you, most everyone you know is destined for eternal torment, and if you sift through all the rules, you get to worship and grovel and praise your master for eternity.Nope, don't blame Christians for being depressed at all.Hell,I'd be downright catatonic if I thought my sole purpose was to grovel at the feet of a genocidal monster.Try a Dr,they work better than a charlat...pastor

At the end of the day Christians always have their imaginary friend Jesus, on whom they can rely as they suffer the slings and arrows as they play their part in the farce that is life.

Atheists just have to walk their path alone, with a little help from their friends perhaps, but invariably they let him down.

I'm sure a lot of depressed atheists will ask you for proof of this.

So will I.

This is a grandiose claim that really can't be taken seriously without evidence. You would also need to link the depression to the religious belief since there are an infinite number of reasons why a person might be.

It has also been "proved" that persons of lower intelligence are happier and less inclined to depression than persons of higher intelligence.

What? Oh, you want a link to substantiate my claim? Sorry, but since you are obviously indifferent to substantiating your own unproven claims, so that everybody else can confirm or deny your veracity, you'll just have to take my useless word for it. Pretty damned frustrating, isn't it? Do you trust those with whom you disagree? Neither do I.
