My parents and sister-in-law have been having problems. For my parents it's a matter of not getting respect from her. For her, she sees them as distant and does not see why she should give them phone calls or visit when they come to visit me at school. I feel like I am setting a bad example, because I really should call and visit more often as well.

Is there something I can do -- for example, talk with my brother and sister-in-law?

I hate to put it like this, but it is true... it is not YOUR problem.
Sure it is family and it my effect you, but it really isn't your place to fix their problem.

Now if they ask for advice, tell them you think they are all being childish and they need to grow up!

Really if someone ask your opinion, tell them how you feel.

People EARN respect, so if your parents haven't earned that, why expect your sister in law to respect them?

Your sister in law does not have an obligation to call your parents or be close with them, ever. Relationships are created by the participants, and don't happen overnight.

This isn't your problem, and it's not up to you to "lecture" adults about their interpersonal relationships with others...

Live and let live, even if you don't agree... do what you feel is right in YOUR OWN LIFE...

and take care.

I think your sister in law needs to show your parents more respect. After all she is married to your brother and you all are family now. However, have your parents done stuff to her?
