Hello please can anyone help. I have a advent laptop running windows vista premium. its about 6 months old and recently i get start up errors when i switch the laptop on. It comes up with windows was unable to start and a start up repair box appears where it gives me a few options such as vista repair utility, reinstall windows, exit and restart and advanced options. I usually get this problem at least once a week. so i choose the repair option then its attempts to repair it. Sometime it takes a few attempts then it all works for a few days then again i start the computer and same problem. I also get a blue screen come up before the error message which comes with lots of letters and number but disappears about 1 sec so dont get enough time to read it ..hope anyone can help.

perform some maintenance on the laptop before attempting to reinstall your OS.

1) Defrag - it is often overlooked and while time consuming, incredibly simple to use. The built in tool works, but 3rd party products are better. PerfectDisk 8 is a good product.

2) Make sure you are up to date w/ patches

1.You can usually find a tool which sets your computer back to the factory settings.
2. As the man said; defragmentation is a good way to rid yourself of some problems
3.System restore ( back to a point when your computer was working properly
4. Failing all of this i would take it back the the shop were you bought it from and ask them to fix it (it will still be under warrenty)
Hope this helps

I would suggest starting by testing the hard drive. The best program to do this is SpinRite (http://www.grc.com/spinrite.htm) but it isn't free. If your hard drive has errors this program will fix it.
