I live just outside Canada's only border city, Lloydminster. Half of the city is in the Province of Alberta and half in the Province of Saskatchewan. We are in the middle of the prairies here and the landscape is rather flat. Many in the area are grain, cattle or mixed farms, many stretching further than the eye can see and remember it's flat you can see a long way.
The oil industry is also very prominent here and we are in the midst of a boom. Too much work not enough workers. High wages are paid out but the cost of living is also very exaggerated at the present time. We've seen booms and crashes in the oil industry in the past so...
In my area there are many small towns, villages and wide open spaces. It is very quiet and laid back. People will stop their cars or tractors in the middle of the road to talk to friends and neighbours, it is still very folksy. People are polite and considerate and you know most of your neighbours.
Alberta though as a province is very diverse. The southern part of the province can be very hot in summer and areas of semi desert like conditions. Along with the praires the Canadian Rockies that border the province to the west are truly magnificent. Northern Alberta is beautiful if you like wilderness. With the exception of a few oil industry based cities and northern communities it is uninhabited and can only be reached by airplane as there are no roads.
Right now we have about 11/2 - 2 ft of snow on the ground. There are ice crystals in the air which is just like fog and the trees are covered in hoar frost which is very pretty. Today is a little nippy at -14C but there is no wind so that's nice. We've had a bit of a cold spell lately were temps have been almost -30C and with highs of -20 during the day. That gets a bit miserable after a week or 2 but we are used to it and you just bundle up.
I love my country but my little corner of it is very different than in other provinces. Each province has it own unique flare and it's good and bad points. Each has it's own natural beauties they are known for. The people too differ from one coast to the other. Accents are different in different parts of the country as well as lifestyles, culture and attitudes. A little bit of everything.
Overall I wouldn't chose to live anywhere else but it is not perfect place...find me one. I personally am disappointed on Canada's immigration policies at present as it seems people have to buy their way into this country. For a country that is known for its humanitarian efforts, I, as a citizen find this embarrassing and hypocritical. So, until we have a change start saving your money, make sure what ever education you get will be recognized here so you can work in your chosen field and hopefully your dream will come true.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I live in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I love it here and I can't imagine living anywhere else. I'm kind of curious where you are planning on moving from...my fiance moved to Canada from England in March and he is still amazed at so many things here, the price of fruit, price of higher end cars, the cleanliness, the people on the street who say hi, but the thing that amazes him most (and his parents) is the sky, they say it never ends.
Hope that helps a bit, if you want more info just ask.
Merry Christmas and happy new year.

I am from the north of England originally, but I came to live in Canada thirty years ago and I love it here. I live in a fairly small Southern Ontario town - St Thomas.
This is a great place to live, its a fairly small Canadian city with a population of 34,000, yet close to London, Ontario, which has a population of 300,000. London has a University, several world-class hospitals, Art Galleries, Museums, Festivals, lots to do in the summer.
Summer here can get pretty hot and humid, but we have breath-taking Autumns, the fall colours are beautiful as we have tens of thousands of Maple trees.
Winters are not too cold - they are crisp and crunchy - you are almost sure to get a "white" Christmas here! We can ski and ride our snowmobiles here and our children can skate.
We have affordable housing, good schools, lots of open spaces and recreational activities (hockey, soccer, baseball), a hospital, a Municipal Airport, enough industry to keep people employed, and we are surrounded by agricultural land - corn, soya beans, tobacco, dairy farms and lots of orchards and vineyards.
You can still buy a brand new detached home here for under $200,000 Canadian dollars and there are several detached homes in St Thomas for sale that are under $140,000 (£70,000)
We are about ten minutes from the beautiful sandy beaches on the north shore of Lake Erie and are less than two hours drive from Toronto, Niagara Falls, Windsor or Detroit.
Southwestern Ontario has been a great place to raise my family and I have no regrets about moving here from England.
Check out this site that tells you all about the area of Southern Ontario where I live, as there are several cities such as Kitchener & London, smaller towns like Stratford & Ingersoll, and some pretty and interesting villages in this area - Sparta, Port Stanley, St Marys.
This site gives some info - http://www.discover-southern-ontario.com it has information about the area - you can click on the "Communities" and "Favourite Villages" buttons for info about the towns and cities in this area.
Good Luck with your decision if you are thinking of emigrating to Canada or any other country.

Having been born and raised in Canada there is nothing I can say though not be prejudicial lol
Having said that we have a country of great diversity, including people, weather and geography. We are as varied and interesting as any country on the planet.
We do tend to be known as a peace keeping oriented nation, I like that and hope we continue on that path of thinking.
I live in south western Ontario region, and enjoy our four seasons unlike up north where they have two seasons lol....shoveling snow and the not shoveling snow season lol
May the joy, hope, peace and love of the season find you and your family.

Regardless of your nationality you can drink in Canada if you are 19 or over, except in the provinces of Alberta, Manitoba and Québec where the legal drinking age is 18. Come on up and enjoy our great country.

I am in Canada now after living literally all over the USA. I LOVE it here. However, just beware, there are a lot of people that come here with grand expectations and are sorely disappointed after being here for a while. I have seen it time and again, where (Americans in particular) come to visit, decide they want to try to live here, and then leave frustrated and heart broken after only a short while. Like I said I absolutely love it here. But you have to take the good with the bad. The taxes here are out of sight high. The prices here,on goods, are also grossly over exaggerated. So just beware of all the aspects before you decide to make a leap.

I am very proud to be Canadian. We are very loyal to our country. We have so many cultures here, and we mesh beautifully.
We are aware of how lucky we are to live in such a beautiful country.
I live in Northern Ontario. Cold winters, hot summers, friendly people, half anglophone half francophone.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too!

I love it, I lived in the USA this year and didn't realize how much I did in fact love Canada until I left. I just wish we had more cosmopolitan cities to choose from. I am early 30's and have lived in pretty much every large city in the country and am running out of places to move to.
