Craigslist is full of scams like this. I have been searching for an inexpensive car too and 90% of the ads I reply to come back with some sort of scam like this.

Craigslist is crap. It's free so the scammers sit around all day and do this and it costs them nothing to try and steal your money. Ignore anyone selling a car who isn't within driving distance from your house.

Any ad that is trying to sell a good car for cheap money is probably a scam.

I responded to a C/L ad about a travel trailer that was supposed to be "local". I got a response very similar to yours. These are scammers that post on C/L and eBay in hopes that someone will actually fall for the lies. Anyone who is savvy knows eBay does not broker deals off site. They always want the money up front and think that by using the eBay name (or in some cases Yahoo) that it will make the sucker....I mean buyer feel like it is legitimate. I hate thieves. Any time you deal on line there is a chance it is one of these crooks so you always need to be cautious.

Don;t trust it. I bought two vehicle on Ebay, but I went to pick them up. And only sent a token deposit prior to picking it up. What do you do if you don't get the car in 3 days? Your just out the money. And I've sold on ebay, what this says is not how it works.Ebay doesn't hold money for anyone.

I would never buy a car from either ebay or craigslist unless the sellers were local and I can inspect before making offers. And also ask to see the title and current registration and make sure the car doesn't have a salvage title.

It's a scam.

Just do a search. eBay doesn't handle any type of monetary transactions. Their sister company Paypal handles the financial end.

Don't fall for it or you'll never see your money again.
