I am going to a Big Brother/Big Sister party tonight, its to help spread the season joy to others. One station is to write a letter to a solider. I guess I am a little blank on what to say.

I know the typical Thank you and despite not being political or knowing much about the war, I support all the troops over there and had friends and family serve (some I don't know where they ended up and have lost contact with).

However, I want something more than just a thank you and Merry Christmas kind of deal. Any ideas?

And Happy Holidays to all of you!

I send packages and correspond with a 2LT. who's in Iraq. The most requested items from soldiers are letters from people talking about what they're doing in the normal world and that they're thinking about the people serving in Iraq. So, just write like you're talking to a friend you haven't seen in awhile. It reminds them of home and that there is a life outside of Iraq and the reason why they're there in the first place.

Hey Kris!!!
Well im not an expert, but if i was a solider right now, I would want to feel loved, supported, and appreciated for what I do. So maybe you could talk, not politically or anything, just on how great they are for standing behind our country, and risking their lives to try in help others. And wish them a happy holiday, and NEW YEAR!!!
Maybe draw a little too, to show you took some time, to make the card a little special…lol

ttulatta hope this helps!!! *=)

Having deployed several times in a 20 year Navy career I can tell you that a serviceperson overseas can never hear enough...."Thank you for defending our country, We are proud of what you are doing." Along with that any news from the "normal" world here in the states is enthusiastically welcomed. To have these things come from a total stranger will undoubtedly bring a tear to the eye of the serviceperson who receives your letter.

You could write about what you have been up to or any news that is big in the country. Sporting events, celebrity news or gossip the Christmas No. 1 song. Tell him/her what you want for Xmas what you plan to do etc. List is endless. The weather I could go on.

Merry Christmas.

It would be great if you could get them this download I got off the internet called Haven of Peace for Soldiers Overseas...it's from a company called Independent Achievement Productions and it really says all the right things. Good luck, I'm sure you'll do fine.

My letter would read:

To all our wonderful soldiers fighting for peace in foreign parts i give you memory, receive it from me by accepting it, as i give it freely and hope it will serve you well as it has for me.

My memory has many compartments, my mothers love lays in one, my first ever pet plays in another, and in another the most special Christmas ever.

There were Christmas lights all aglow, bells ringing, singing, dancing and laughter. All was well with the world. Happy smiling faces, wonderful gifts, delicious food, and the warmth of family was all around.

This wonderful Christmas was given to me by soldiers who fought in another war many years ago. I now reciprocate that gift and pass it on to you, for you now fight for all of our next Christmases. God bless you and god bless America.

I hope you find inspiration from this.

Speak whatever comes to your mind first.
Tell 'em a funny story, a cool riddle, anything! They probably need cheering up. Let them know that we haven't forgotten about them and they're still loved.
